Haffer's Happenings

September 15, 2014

What a beautiful weekend! I hope the kiddos were able to get outside and play. I want to remind everyone that there is no school on Friday this week.

Sight Words/Phonics

Last weeks words are: and and you.

This weeks words are: in and my.

Last weeks letters are: l, r, x, and y.

This weeks letters are: q, a, i, and o.

Students will be working on isolating and pronouncing the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds of words. They will also begin to notice differences in similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.

We continue to work on retelling a story including key details and identifying story elements. This week the children will begin making predictions about a story based on what they have heard and seen in the pictures. We will be using the books A Color of His Own, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and various nursery rhymes.

This week the children will be doing Narrative Writing. They will use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order which they occurred and provide a reaction to what happened. We will be focusing on writing sentences that include a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and punctuation at the end as well as writing sounds they hear in their words.

We finished up Topic 2 on Friday. This week we will begin Topic 3 which covers counting, reading, and writing the numbers 6-10.
