Lower School Library Newsletter

Fall is in the Air
With Fall starting September 23rd, that means the Fall Book Frenzy will soon be here. It also means that the library is filled with its own frenzy of excitement. This edition of the lower school library newsletter will highlight our library contest, changes to the Garden Level of the library, a library hosted information session, and new materials added to the lower school collection. The Hassenfeld Library staff hopes that your year is off to a successful start (and hopefully you are not feeling too frenzied)!
Hassenfeld Library Contest
Do you love books? Are you great at estimation? Then this contest is perfect for you. Hassenfeld Library is hosting a "Guess the Number of Pages" contest. Stop by the main circulation desk to take a closer look at the book and submit your guess. The deadline is September 30th. K-4 students will have a chance to guess during their library class, the week of September 21st. One student winner in K-4 will win an Amazon or Parnassus gift card; the faculty/staff member with closest guess will also win an Amazon or Parnassus gift card. Good Luck!
Hassenfeld Library Garden Level Map (Lower and Middle School Books)
We have been busy on the Garden Level of the library rearranging the locations of both the lower school and the middle school collections. In order to assist with learning where everything currently is located, we have color coded signs matching specific sections. The most important change is that the Middle School collection is all in one color (red) and for the most part contained in its own area. We have maps at the Garden Level circulation desk to guide you and you can click here to download your own copy of the map. You can also download the map on the Lower School libguide. As always, the library staff is happy to assist if you have any further questions.
Destiny (OPAC) 101 Library Information Session-September 28th 3:30-4:30-Library Classroom
Are you familiar with Destiny, the library's online catalog? Have you ever wanted to learn how to create individual lists, place books on hold, renew books, access public resource lists, or search the collection by subject headings? If these topics pique your interest, come join us on Monday, September 28th from 3:30-4:30 in the library classroom. You can stop in at anytime and feel free to bring your own questions about Destiny!
New Materials Added to the Collection
We've added new materials to the lower school library collection since the last newsletter. Click on the links below the pictures to access a bibliography of all new books in that category. You can also obtain these lists on the USN lower school LibGuide. The lists are located on the left side of the page.
