Newton County Health Department Updated Quarantine & Contacts Guidance
The Newton County Health Department updated guidance about quarantined students and contacts. The updated guidance is attached below and the highlighted porting is the most recent change.
Our positive COVID-19 numbers and amount of quarantined students has greatly decreased the past couple weeks districtwide with no current positive student cases, two current staff positive cases, and 11 students quarantined. You can check our current numbers at the following COVID-19 District Dashboard which is updated regularly.
Two weeks ago our technology provider K12-itc did a complete infrastructure upgrade to make all of our district schools wifi 6 ready, new access points, and increase our bandwidth and upload speed by almost double. We have created an outdoor wifi Hub in the gravel parking lot across from the Middle School that students can use from their vehicles after school hours, on the weekends, and during school closures. We also have signed the final agreement with T-Mobile for 120 student Hotspots and completed the DESE Connectivity grant for our students who do not have internet access in their homes and should be receiving the Hotspots in the near future for distribution. We also signed the final agreement with Freeman Health-Neosho for our Tele-Health machines for each of our buildings. We will testing the devices in the buildings this week, installing the devices when they arrive this next month, and are working with the Crowder College Nursing program to provide nursing students to assist our district nurse. The Tele-Health program provided through Freeman Health will allow our students and staff to get an almost immediate Doctor's visit online for a flat fee of $35 and more information about this exciting opportunity will be sent out in the near future.
District Project Updates
Our maintenance crew has been working the past couple months completing the construction of our Football restroom/concession facility project. We have completed the metal roofing, siding, trim, guttering, doors, sinks, toilets, stalls, urinals, Heat/AC, new vinyl fencing and the building has been a great improvement for our fans and visitors for our football games. We have also been painting the interior of our Administration Building, will have our new flooring installed next week, and the project wrapped up soon. If you see our wonderful maintenance crew please let them know how much you appreciate all of their hard work to make these wonderful projects come together!
