For the month of December, we will be focusing on Habit #3 which is “Put First Things First”. It is important to set time aside for your family during this busy holiday season. We challenge you to some family-fun activities! Let each family member choose an activity they would like to do for your family time. You can put these ideas in a basket and choose times during the month to draw an activity. Putting first things first begins with your family! Here are a few “screen free” activities:
*hot chocolate and Christmas lights
*board game
*make cookies
*make holiday cards
*holiday caroling
Have fun!!!

Greetings Parents & Friends!
It is always amazing how quickly time flies, especially around this time of year! I wanted to make sure you knew about some unique opportunities for Brougham families! We kicked off our very first Parent Book Club this month that will go through January. We are reading “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families” by Stephen R. Covey. Not only is it an outstanding book, filled with genuine stories and humorous perspectives, it is also a wonderful way for parents to connect with the lessons of Leader In Me and apply them in our daily lives. You can always grab a copy of your own, but we will also have more opportunities for new groups to read through the book together in the new year. We have copies that can be checked out during our study. In the spring, we will also be able to provide a special opportunity for a group of parents to be trained in the habits and be able to lead future trainings! Let us know if you are interested!
As we wrap up our November focus on Habit #2- Begin with the End in Mind, I have been reviewing the importance of PERSEVERANCE and EMPATHY in my counseling lessons with the students. Again, I meet with every class, every other week, and with kindergarten every week. I absolutely love getting to dive deeper into the rich social-emotional lessons of Leader In Me! We have numerous opportunities to apply what we are learning to our daily experiences and interactions. The wisdom we are gaining from the habits are priceless, regardless of age.
As always, thank you for your support and encouragement. Please feel free to contact me anytime.
Warmly,
Faith Scott

PENNIES FOR SHOES CAMPAIGN
We will be kicking off our Pennies for Shoes Campaign the week of December 10th - 14th, with Monday being penny day, Tuesday nickel day, and so on as we progress through that week.
We are looking forward to achieving great success, even though the bar has been set high thanks to the wonderful Brougham families who have and continue to recognize this important season of being thankful for what we have and giving to others who are less fortunate!
EARLY CHILDHOOD FEE-BASED PEER PROGRAM 2019–2020
The Olathe Early Childhood Special Education Program serves children ages 3-5 who are eligible for special education services, as well as typically developing peers. The Peer Program provides an opportunity for typically developing children to be integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education classrooms to serve as role models for children with special needs.
A Peer student must live in the boundaries of the Olathe School District and demonstrate age-appropriate skills in the areas of play, social, behavior, speech, language, and motor. Additionally, all peers must be independent with toileting and speak English fluently. Children must be at least three years old before attending, and not be age-eligible to attend kindergarten.
We have a limited number of slots available for Peers. We will be accepting applications from January 7, 2019, through February 1, 2019, for the 2019-2020 school year. Applications will not be available before January 7, 2019.
To request an application, please visit the Olathe Public Schools website and look for the Early Childhood link under the “Academics” tab. If you have any difficulty using the online application, please contact Shannon Leeds at (913) 780-7341.
