Message from our School Nurse
Hello St. Paul Families,
I hope that this message finds you well. We are entering a very busy holiday season and I know that our focus is pulled in many directions. One thing to not lose sight of is the importance of hand washing and staying as healthy as we can over the next few months to prevent getting and spreading germs.
You may have noticed that the media and news are talking a lot about the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (also called “RSV” for short). RSV has been around for many years, but doctors are particularly worried about it this year. This virus is a tricky one and can make some people, especially little kids, and elders, very sick.
Our St. Paul School District wants to make sure that you all have the best information about RSV. We’ve included a few helpful links for you to learn more about RSV and the best ways to stop it from spreading around our community.
Here are the top three things we can all do to stop RSV from causing illness in our schools:
1) Wash hands (use warm soap and water for 20 seconds)
2) Carry alcohol-based hand sanitizer (use it after going to stores or public areas)
3) Cover coughs and sneezes (wash hands or use sanitizer if hands were used to cover coughs/sneezes)
Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions about RSV. I am personally very familiar with this virus and how harmful it can be to our young children: One of my own was hospitalized twice due to RSV. It’s scary for parents and families to think about for sure, but if we are careful and pay attention to hand hygiene and staying healthy we can all stop this from spreading around our community.
Wishing you all health and wellness,
Lily Schott, Your District Nurse
