PCIS FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT!

LITERACY LEADS LEARNING was certainly evident last night at PCIS's Literacy Night! A very special THANK YOU to the PCIS Literacy Support Team for a fantastic evening.

Throughout the evening, families were able to engage with writers, artists and community organizations who shared how literacy has positively impacted their careers. Three outstanding authors spoke about their most recently published books and what or who inspired them to become writers. There were lots of wonderful activities for students including Big Ryan’s Tall Tales, Autumn Seasonal Stargazing in the Planetarium, Coffee House performances, MakerSpace and story time Curious George.

Thank you to all volunteers, guest speakers and organizations for taking part in this great event! PCIS continues their literacy celebrations today during the school day. We look forward to many more literacy events to come.

Happy Halloween!

The preschool had their Halloween parties on Tuesday where they could wear their costume to school and go trick or treating down the hall of the preschool. Therapists and teachers dressed up along with the children and handed out little toys and stickers to them along their trick-or-treating path. The motor room was turned into a haunted house with ghosts, spiders and jack-o-lanterns that the children had created. A fun time was had by all!

Fun in Math!

Kindergarten was very busy this week exploring pumpkins in a variety of ways. Mrs. Marchsianni spent Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Pagnotti’s class making mathematical discoveries. We investigated measurement, estimation and counting to 100. On Wednesday the kindergarten classes enjoyed a ‘mixed up’ center time. Ms. Naugler’s and Mrs. Pagnotti’s classes were mixed together and worked in groups on a variety of seasonal activities.

The goal was to make their stories "ready for the world". Students acted as teachers as they helped their partners improve their writing. The peer advice was thoughtful and kind, and made the editing process extra fun and meaningful for the young writers.
