Message from Brenda
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students
With only just over a week of school to go, there are still lots of great things going on! We are very excited about the Year 5 show Singin’ in the Rain which will be performed this Thursday evening. Year 6 students will perform their home-grown plays just prior to assembly and then will have their official graduation ceremony on Tuesday morning. All classes will enjoy class parties on Wednesday 28th June. You will have received a note from your child’s teacher about this.
Farewell to staff
Alex Sommerville
Alex has worked with Glenealy for twelve and a half years and during this time has shown he has a real talent for so many things. Alex throws himself enthusiastically into everything he does. He has boundless energy and is a positive and fun person to be around. Alex loves the performing arts and has amazing skills in this area, both personally and when working with children. He has a love of language, reading and writing and of course has a huge passion for football! Our students have benefited so much from Alex’s skills and expertise, not to mention his fun approach to learning and his desire to make children the centre of everything he does. Alex has worked on developing student leadership across the school and has been the driving force behind our amazing GGT which is legendary! The entire community will miss Alex, however I know many of you are happy that you and your child will meet up again with Alex at Island School where he will be working on a two-year secondment post. We thank him incredibly for his service to the school and wish him all the very best in his move to BIG school!
Fittingly we bid farewell to Alex today by hosting a testimonial football match featuring Glenealy football stars both present and past.
Trish Oliver
Trish was initially employed as a Year 2 teacher, 7 years ago and she quickly became recognised for all the talents and skills she possessed both inside and outside of the classroom. After three years she moved to the library role where she worked with staff to completely change the ‘face’ of the library by making some environmental changes, updating the collection and redefining the teaching programme that took place during library sessions. We soon saw that the library was going to become the hub of the school and Trish led the team in the design of the library space, which we must all agree, is the most fantastic and inviting library in HK. Trish’s flair for design and redevelopment didn’t go unnoticed and soon she was embarking with the design team on full scale renovation work for classrooms, playgrounds, the Centre etc. Trish has talent in many areas including digital technology, graphic design work and curriculum development particularly in the area of digital citizenship, ensuring our children remain safe online. She has worked on some exciting video and media projects with staff and students and leaves a legacy in so many areas of the school. Trish will also be remembered for her amazing Book Week costumes. Trish has inspired students in many ways and so many of our students call the library home! They love what Trish has offered and the special things that are always happening in the library space - designed specifically to capture and engage our learners. We congratulate Trish on her move to ESFC as learning and teaching coach. Trish will be a real asset to all other kindergarten and primary schools in ESF and we wish her every success in her new role. I have no doubt that she will be extremely successful. Thanks Trish for everything you have given to the school. Goodbye and good luck.
Please join Trish in the library for a coffee from 8.15 - 9am on Thursday June 29th to say goodbye. This will be an informal get together and you can just pop in and out. We'd love for you to join us. Please click here to let us know if you will be coming along.
School Calendar 2017/18
This has been published at the end of each newsletter for many months now. Please note the term and holiday dates. We will have a CPD day for the first day back in August so the school term for the children will officially start on Tuesday 15th August.
Leavers Assembly
As we have a number of families moving out of Hong Kong we will be saying farewell to leavers over the last two assemblies. Parents will have received an email from Nicole informing you of the assembly date related to your family. Those students moving out of Hong Kong will have an opportunity to share where they are moving to and to tell us about their new school if they would like to.
Kind regards
Brenda

Year 4 Fundraiser - Games Galore - Friday 16th June
Games Galore was all about having fun and spending time in our groups creating crazy, fun games like Duck Duck Goose, Pogo Sticks, Arts & Crafts, Table Tennis and many more. We added our own ideas, and used lots of skills from our unit including creativity, problem-solving, decision making and determination. It was a marvelous day and, despite the weather, everyone had fun for just $20 each. Many thanks to the Year 4 teaching team, our volunteer parent helpers, the prefects and all of you who came along! In total we raised $6827 for the P.T.A. It was an awesome day!
