CHRIST THE KING SCHOOL NEWS NOTES

January 5, 2016

This winter, sixth graders read The Watsons Go to Birmingham, followed by a viewing of the film adaptation. They then wrote an essay comparing and contrasting the film and the novel. Next, they met in literature circles to read historical fiction and narrative historical non-fiction books. While they were reading, they also wrote research essays about a topic based on the time period in which the book was set. Based on their research and the text, they made their own screen adaptations. The students planned a large film festival to share the films with the rest of the school and their parents. The films were judged by three star judges: Ms. Jessica York, from the Lexington Children’s Theatre Board of Directors, Mr. Cedric Kauffman, UK Tennis Coach, and UK Volleyball player, Emily Franklin.

SNOW DAYS

CKS will alert parents through e-mail and text if school will not be in session due to inclement weather. We will also communicate our status with the local television stations if we will be closed or on a delay. We will use e-days in case of school closure. In the case of a multi-day closure, traditional make-up days may utilized depending on the circumstances. Teachers will inform students of assignments via RenWeb or Edmodo, or will have sent home an e-day packet ahead of time.

SAFETY ISSUE

It has come to our attention that there are parents parking along Cochran Road in the mornings to walk children in the building. This is a huge concern in regards to safety along this road. Please park in the back if you need to walk your children into the building. Thank you!
