PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Dear Families,
As we continue through Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), an important step for teachers is to understand your student’s most essential learning needs. To collect this valuable information, students in grades 3-8 will take Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments. The MAP assessment is a low stakes test - this means that the results are not used for grading students or for school accountability purposes.
Normally, the MAP assessment is conducted in the classroom setting but, because of distance learning, students will take this assessment at home. Testing will take place between February 8-26. We are aware that the testing conditions for each student will not be the same and the validity of individual student results may vary. The aggregate data across a grade level will be very helpful though as we make plans to adjust curriculum as needed in the 2021-2022 school year.
The MAPS assessments are dynamic assessments, which means they are automatically adjusted for difficulty as the student takes the assessment. It is expected that students will not be able to answer some of the questions in order for the assessment to properly locate the skill level.
Parents have the option of excusing their child from participating in the test. If you choose to do this you only need to send your child’s teacher an email indicating that your child not be participating in the Reading MAPS assessment, the Math MAPS assessment or both MAPS assessments.
Your student’s teacher will provide further information about when the test will be given. The district will provide your student’s scores to you following the assessment window.
Thank you.
John Horn
Principal

CALL FOR CANDIDATES TO JOIN 2021-2022 PTA BOARD
Believe it or not, the Arleta PTA board is planning ahead for next school year, and are looking for volunteers to join the PTA Board. We are hopeful for a safe return to in-person school and bringing back some fun, community-building events. But to make all of that happen, we need a group of dedicated volunteers to organize and plan it.
- No experience necessary!
- All are welcome - parents, teachers/staff, grandparents, community members
- We want our board to reflect our students and staff, and are specifically seeking BIPOC members
- Lots of opportunity to create a role that works for you
- Great leadership development opportunity!
- Help share the future of Arleta!
We'll share a list of expected board vacancies and role descriptions soon. If you are interested, please reach out to ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com.
