Weekly Bulletin December 1-December 5

A Time to Give Thanks

Under the Fundamental 5 column, I have attached an article from Lead your School titled "Be the Best Me in the Classroom". This article perfectly describes how we start feeling this time of the year!

The month of November is a time to give thanks. I'm thankful for my family and my friends. I'm also thankful each day for the wonderful FMS staff that I work with!

Relax this week and avoid the temptation to do any type of school work. Use it as a time to rejuvenate and to spend it with your family and friend. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!

I Will Survive Thanksgiving

PLC

PLC: Charlott will be out on Tuesday and Wednesday during the week of December 1st to attend training . So, PLC's that meet on those days need to attend PLC on Monday or Thursday. The focus for PLC will be on the Flipped Classroom.

Printing Scantrons: Teachers, please be careful when you print the scantrons to make sure you are selecting the correct one to print. If the scantron has ACC written next to it, that is for the accommodated test.

Instructional Strategy: No Opt Out-Try this

Go back to a student who was first unable or unwilling to answer your question and ask him/her to repeat the correct answer after another student in the class has provided the correct answer.

In doing this, you eliminate the incentive for the student not to try. Opting out will save the student no time or work because they will always have to answer your original question that they at first did not know. This will eventually create a classroom culture where effort replaces the disinterested shrug.

Please read the attached article.

Oral Reading Support

Each day, Kathy works on a schedule to make sure that students are provided oral support for their test. This is a not an easy task especially when a variety of test are being given on one day. Kathy does send emails when changes occur, but keep in mind she has classes. So if you do not have anyone to read to your students, this is when you take a deep breath and say "Okay, I need to read to them". Also, send Kathy an email. Remember this is the first year in many years that students are pulled from the classroom to have the test read to them, so please be patient and understanding.

Staff Member-Spotlight of the Week: Coach West, Coach Pettit, Coach Miller

From Staff Member: You helped the spinal screening of all 6th grade students go so smooth that all screening was completed faster than in previous years.

See Mrs. Flores for a special snack. You also get to park in the reserved parking space. (Take turns) To nominate a Staff Member for Spotlight of the Week email a Cross the Line Form to Mrs. Gonzales

Outdoor Classroom

The outdoor classroom is ready to be used. Carts were also purchased for teachers to carry their classroom items to the outdoor classroom. This classroom is very nice and fundraiser money was raised over the years to be able to purchase it for the students. I look forward in seeing the classroom used numerous times as an alternate place to teach a lesson than in your classroom. You will be able to reserve it on-line and I will send instructions on how to do this when we get back.

Campus Website and WCN Picture and Caption

Parents get excited when they see their child's picture on the website and in the Wilson County Newspaper. Mr. Hineman does an excellent job of updating the pictures on the campus website for all to see. Currently we are working on giving him updated information for the Announcement and Our Story section of the website . If you want the exciting things going on in your classroom on the website, send it to me with a caption.

At the first of the year, each of you signed up for a week to send a picture and a caption to Mr. Hineman to be printed in the Wilson County News. If you have forgotten what week you signed up, it is posted in the teacher's lounge bulletin board and Mrs. Flores just sent another email of the list. As well, I will also start putting it in the bulletin. It is a campus and district expectation that you submit the picture and caption to Mr. Hineman for posting in WCN. The picture should be of your student(s) with a 2-3 sentence caption of what they are doing. Mr. Hineman emailed additional instructions, so please read it.

Picture and Caption-Week of December 1-Catherine Gastauer
