Spelling Words

The students are now in spelling groups. I will send a separate sheet with your child's spelling words. The test will still be on Friday.


We are reading Tar Beach.

Mentor Sentence: I can wear it like a giant diamond necklace, or just fly above it and marvel at its sparkling beauty.

Grammar Focus: compound predicates

We are also practicing writing analytical expository essays. This week we are finishing writing about summer vacation. We are working on interesting conclusion paragraphs! The students are also doing a timed writing test (45 mins) each Tuesday to prepare for our ACT Aspire Test. I am going to start sending home what your child composes on these days so you can get an idea of how they might perform on the test. I will ask that you sign and return these papers.


We are working on comparing decimals in our weekly math. Don't forget we have weekly quizzes on Fridays. I always send home a study guide that is VERY similar to the actual test on Thursdays so you can practice with your child.
