Principal's Message
Dear Memorial Families,
Are you looking for something fun to do tomorrow? Mrs. Decker is building a small Zen Garden in the greenhouse area and would love some extra hands to help out. This project is something that we started last year with our connection to Shimazu School in Japan. Mrs. Decker had students submit design ideas and the ideas were combined into the final layout. She has all of the materials ready to build the garden tomorrow morning. The Garden will be a peaceful place for children and adults to relax and reflect. We are very excited to see it once it is complete!
Mrs. Decker is looking for extra sets of hands between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm tomorrow to help build the garden. Stop down if you have some free time...she would love to see you!
Enjoy the weekend!
John

Riding to School (bikes, scooters, etc.)
We love seeing all of the students who are riding bikes and scooters to school. Please remember that there is a helmet law and bike/scooter riders must wear a helmet. From what we are told, the MPD has the right to confiscate bikes, scooters, etc. if children are not wearing a helmet. Safety first!
Bus Info
(from: http://www.mersd.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=356)
Can Registered Students Ride Any Bus?
No. Students will only be allowed to ride the school bus to which they are assigned. Transportation is intended for travel to and from a student’s home, not other locations. With the understanding that some students consistently travel to and from multiple addresses and homes, students will be permitted to travel to more than one address if it is on a recurring, predictable schedule. It is our hope that this will be helpful to families, while still allowing MERSD to have advanced knowledge of which students will be on a given bus. This advanced knowledge is important for planning demand vs. capacity and for safety reasons so we know where students should be each day. Requests to ride more than one bus should be provided to: schoolbus@mersd.org. Please be aware that travel to destinations that are less than 1.5 miles from school will be subject to the $180 annual per student fee. Students will not be allowed to travel home on a friend’s school bus.

Note for "Walkers"
If your child typically walks or bikes to school and used the footbridge in the past, you will notice that the footbridge is closed currently. A truck hit it during the summer and the district is working with insurance companies to get it repaired. In the meantime, students who used the footbridge in the past, should walk or ride to our new crosswalk in front of the school. They can push the button to signal the lights so that they can cross the street safely and then walk up the new island sidewalk to the front of the building. There is a beautiful new bike rack located in front of the school for their use. Please review this with your child if it impacts him/her.
