Parsons ES Partyline
Friday, February 7, 2020
Ms. Vosough sponsors two clubs (Student Council & World Citizens), she attends SST/Attendance meetings, she teaches in multiple classrooms each day, she meets with individual students and small groups. She responds to walkie talkie calls if an administrator is not available. She deals with crisis situations including DFACS and social workers, she greets and dismisses our students each morning and each afternoon. Her car is often the last one in the parking lot because she has daily data she must enter and there is no time in the day for that. I know I can't even begin to share ALL she does because I know I would most definitely leave something out SO I just want to say THANK YOU, Ms. Vosough for being OUR AMAZING counselor!
It's a Short Month but it is Packed!
Friday is Valentine's Day so I hope each of you do what you love, with the people you love. We will have no meetings the week of Conferences because I know you "don't have time to be this busy!"
Proud to be your principal,
Laura

Ms. Dominique King will be joining us as our new clinic worker on Monday, February 24. She is currently working out her two week notice but is super excited about being part of the Parsons' Family.
Dr. Clara Kwon Tatum will be joining the staff at Discovery High School. Discovery is lucky to have her join their staff and support their students. She will always be a part of our Parsons' Family and we wish her the best!
Mrs. Andrice Turner has made the decision to stay home with her sweet baby, Preston, next year. We are so excited that she will have this opportunity and we know she will be making special mommy memories.
Mrs. Nga Down will be joining the support team next year serving as an Advanced Content Math, Science and Reading teacher for 3rd grade (Mrs. Piper will serve 4th and Ms. Austin will serve 5th). Mrs. Down holds many endorsements and certifications that will allow her to serve in many support roles the other half of her day-ESOL, Gifted, Reading, and STEM Leadership.
Ms. Ashley Bailey will be joining the 3rd grade team next school year. We currently have six 2nd grade classes and next year we will need six 3rd grade classes so we have asked Ashley to move up to 3rd.
We will be setting up interviews in the upcoming weeks. We are looking to hire a Korean DLI 2nd grade teacher (must be fluent in Korean) and a 3rd Grade Teacher (could be Korean also).
If you are interested in sitting in on the interviews, please let us know. It is important that WE select candidates that will bring value to our team.

Parent Conference Set-Up
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Early Release Days (February 19th & 20). You may also conduct conferences at other times throughout the week of February 17th-21st. You may hold conferences on the Teacher Workday (February 17th) after 10:30 am. We will not have a Tuesday morning or Wednesday/Thursday meetings, so feel free to use those times if you would like.
It is best to conduct conferences when administrators are in the building. The building opens at 6:00am, but the front doors will not be unlocked until 7:30 am for parents to enter. If you schedule before 7:30 am, please be aware that an administrator will only be available beginning at 7:30 am each day and that you must greet your parents at the front doors.
An administrator will be available in the evening as follows:
- Monday, Tuesday, and Friday until 4:30 pm
- Wednesday until 7:00 pm
- Thursday until 6:00 pm
Teachers should use PTC Fast to manage their parent conferences. You may begin setting up your PTC Fast conferences at https://www.ptcfast.com/index.html. Conferences should be launched on Friday, February 7th. Parent Letters should also be sent home on February 7th. Please post your conference code on eCLASS and place the code in your weekly newsletter.
You will use the ticket number and passcode found in the directions below to pay for your conferences.
Remember that you will need to greet parents at the front door if they arrive after 4:30 pm or before 7:30 am.
A printed Conference Schedule is due to Emily Smith by 10 AM on Monday, February 17th.
Learning and Leave Early Opportunity
Would you like to leave two hours early on our workday, February 17th? The GCPS EL Programs Office recommends as a best practice that all content teachers of English Learners, direct, and monitored, complete the Self-Paced, online English Learners 101 course, updated last year. Participation ensures that each local school is meeting OCR expectations to provide training on proficiency levels and research-based strategies for all teachers of English Learners. It takes about 2 hours to complete and can be done in short sections. Teachers who have completed the original ELs 101 may complete ELs 102 instead. It is a short review that contains the updated information.
Teachers who complete the online Self-Paced course will be able to leave on February 17th at 2:00 so you can spend the rest of your day relaxing or catching up on appointments. If you decide to complete the course, let your grade level administrator know. You must have completed the course before February 17th in order to leave early.
