Available for: Independent Study Credit/Volunteer
Dates: Spring & Fall semesters, Summer
Contact Person: Cortney Jessup, cjcoxon@email.arizona.edu
Description:
The Brain Imaging, Behavior and Aging Lab studies brain-behavior relationships in the context of aging. Research Assistants may be involved in multiple aspects of projects such as: data entry, collecting and analyzing data, recruiting and screening participants over the phone, assisting with the collection of MRI and fMRI data (images of the brain), and participation in lab meetings and discussions.
Expectations:
- Research assistants will be expected to commit to at least 10 hours per week in the lab and to reliably adhere to that schedule throughout each semester.
- A 1 year commitment must be made upon being invited into the lab so that there is sufficient time for training and hands on experience.
- Lab hours will be based on the Research Assistant’s schedule and will be documented.
- Assistants will be introduced to multiple projects upon entering the lab, will focus on one project, and will be expected to assist with other projects if needed.

Suicide is the second-leading cause of death amongst youth ages 10-24 in Pima County. The data about mental health and suicide among college students nationwide is also sobering. Reducing the impact of suicide on our community begins with storytelling, conversation, and sharing of outreach and counseling resources. Join us for a screening of the documentary film Not Alone, featuring the stories of high school students who have struggled with mental illness and suicidal ideation and how sharing their stories helped keep them alive.
The screening will be followed by apanel discussion featuring Joronda Monta ñ o, Exec. Director of notMYkid, Rezwana Islam, UAPublic Health major and LGBTQ advocate, Ernestina Limon, former Pima County Health Dept. Community Mental Health and Addiction Program Coordinator, and Darin Knapp, UA Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences Assistant Professor of Practice. The panel will be moderated by Bonnie Kneller, Tucson High School Lead School Social Worker. We invite you to engage in a conversation about promoting mental health in our community and preventing suicide in our student population.
