Shepard News & Notes
May 18, 2018
Hello Shepard Families:
We've recently noticed that a number of students are ordering in for lunch or after school snacks. Maybe you knew, or maybe you forgot that your credit card is linked to a DoorDash or Uber Eats account on your child's phone! In any event, please note that we discourage food deliveries to school unless an emergency. Of course, if your child forgets his or her lunch and you need to send Jimmy John's, that is AOK. But, we ask that deliveries be the exception and not the norm. Thank you!
Warm Regards,
John1st/FINAL Posting - Deerfield Historical Society 50th Anniversary Jubilee
Sunday, May 20 from 11am-3pm at the Historic Village
This free event for all ages will feature tours of the Historic Village and of Kipling so you can get a view of Deerfield schools yesterday and today! You'll also enjoy District 109 student performances, find antique appraisals, play historic games and activities, and visit food vendors.
Donations to the Deerfield Historical Society will be welcome. All funds raised will go toward repairs and improvements to the historic structures, which include the oldest building in Lake County, the Caspar Ott log house built in 1837. As a non-profit organization, all of the Society’s services, including the maintenance of the Historic Village, are made possible by membership dues and donations.

1st Posting - District Fees
Dear Families of 2018-2019 Students,
There is still plenty of time left in this school year, but it’s also time to look ahead to next year!
District fees for the 2018-2019 school year now are payable online throughFamily Access. They are due on July 1. Avoid the late fee of $25 per family and pay before the deadline. If you have an outstanding balance for the current school year for any of your children, please pay those fees as soon as possible.
I am begging you: read this fee letter thoroughly. It has so much important (and, you have to admit, incredibly well written) information for all families - including yours!
You can always find information about fees, including fee waivers, on the Fee Information page of the website.
Please review the Family Access User Guide with step-by-step online payment instructions so you can quickly and securely pay your fees using a credit card. A few specific notes:
- Incoming kindergarten and preschool families: You now can log into Family Access with the login information emailed to your after you registered! The email came from do.not.reply@dps109.org with the subject "Family Access Account Information."
- Middle school families: Your incidental fees are payable now. Some are mandatory and have been assigned to your child's account. Others are optional and can be added to your account. Please read this detailed information about incidental fees.
- Families of parents in separate households: Fees will appear only in the Family Access account of the parent who is the primary payor.
A note to all families: You will see inactive students in Family Access - including District 109 graduates of all ages! This allows our incoming families to access the system to pay their fees and ensure we have the correct emergency and contact information for them. So, if you have a child in high school (or beyond!), you will see his or her name pop up now, until we roll over the system for the new school year. Don't worry - there are no fees assigned to them!
Please contact me if you have any questions about Family Access. If you have questions about fee waivers, contact Kelly Mitchell.
Sincerely,
Cathy Kedjidjian
