Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
April 20, 2018
Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
A letter was mailed home from me this week that details our upcoming administration of the PARCC test (a copy can be found at the bottom of this newsletter). Students in grades 6-11 will be testing April 30 - May 2. The regular school schedule will be suspended during this time to allow for a morning and afternoon testing session. During the break between the sessions, students will be able to eat lunch and engage in a fun, physical activity outside. Make-up testing for absent students will occur May 3-4. It is critical that students bring their own headphones for the test; parents please make sure students have these (inexpensive earbuds can be purchased at the dollar store).
If you had the opportunity to come out on Tuesday for the Jazz Concert, you were treated to a wonderful show. Students showcased their ample talent performing beautiful pieces of music. Congratulations to Mr. Park and his students!
Some Junior High students presented before the Board of Education on Wednesday. A group of 6th graders in Mrs. Kalb's classroom shared their fundraising project for suicide prevention mentioned in a previous version of this newsletter. Mr. Richardson invited some of his track students to share their exciting experiences with Junior High athletics. They stressed the importance of being involved and how it has helped them make new friends. Each of them spoke confidently and did a super job!
8th grade student, Savanah Duckworth, was chosen by her teachers to represent our school at the Gloucester County 8th Grade Dialogue event. Sponsored by the county freeholders, Savanah joined other student representatives from 16 middle schools to discuss their experience in 8th grade. They were asked questions by a moderator and spoke before a packed audience. Needless to say, this proud young person spoke passionately and brought a touch of humor to liven up the evening. You can see a recording of one of her answers below. We are so proud of her!
Last, I'd like to close with three rapidly approaching events. Woodbury Relays, the largest track meet in the entire state, begins this afternoon with the middle school competition and then tomorrow all day for high schoolers. This premiere event is a community-wide spectacle; come out and join us!
Take Your Child to Work Day is on Thursday, April 26 and any student participants will not be counted as absent.
Please take a look at the letter from Ms. Walsh about the Junior High Career Day on May 17 below. She is looking for people interested in sharing their careers with our kids.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Keep Love Present,
Dr. Vivadelli
