Divine Providence School

Family and School Connection

Welcome to the new school year!

This week we welcome so many new people to our school! Welcome to the new families that have continued their child's Catholic faith journey with us as well as the families that are experiencing Catholic education for the first time. We also welcome back all the loyal Divine Providence families. United, we come together as one "Divine Family"!

We also welcome new staff members to our academic team. Mrs. Brennan will be teaching one of the pre-kindergarten classes, Mrs. Southerton will teach 2nd grade, Mrs. Sautariello will teach 4th grade, and Mrs. Antikauskas will be the aide in pre-kindergarten with Mrs. Brennan. Watch for more information about our new teachers in the next few weeks!

Of course we also welcome Fr. Marcin as the new pastor of Divine Infant Jesus and Divine Providence Parish.

Meet our new principal- Mrs. LeTourneau

My name is Lynn LeTourneau and I am excited and honored to be the new principal at Divine Providence School. I have learned about the strong faith and academics Divine Providence School has and I am happy to be part of this team.

I am a product of the Archdiocese of Chicago School system. I come to Divine Providence with over 20 years of experience in Catholic Schools. I began as an 8thgrade Math teacher in the Diocese of Joliet and later assumed the position of Principal at St. Andrew the Apostle in Romeoville. My most recent Principal experience is coming from Our Lady of Charity School in Cicero. I live in LaGrange and am married with three daughters- Erin (16), Renee (13) and Lisa (7). We love pets at our home, which currently come in at a total of 7, including our beloved dog, Lacy, and our goldfish named “Tuppy”. In my spare time, I love to make crafts and garden (although I am not very good at it). Update- my cherry tomatoes did really well this summer, but unfortunately my cucumbers did not do well.

You are your child’s first teacher and your child’s faith began in your arms. I understand the strong bond a school needs to have with a family and I believe a strong component of this is communication. I am also enthusiastic to begin to work with the amazing staff at Divine Providence School. Together I am eager to work with them to learn more about the Catholic Identity of the school, curriculum, and traditions.

I am here to help students grow in so many different ways by being a strong spiritual leader and academic leader. I look forward to getting to know your child.

Meet our new staff!

Academic News

New to DP this year is the use of a site called iReady. iReady will be a valuable addition to the kindergarten through 8th grade classrooms. Each student will soon be taking a diagnostic assessment to give teacher data on to individualize instruction for your child. This experience is very student friendly. Please watch for more information!

ACT Aspire 2019

Every spring across the Archdiocese of Chicago, students participate in the ACTAspire Assessment. The test covers the areas of Reading, Mathematics, Science, English and Writing. The results for your child will be sent home next week. Please note that we have also accessed the results for students who attended Divine Infant Jesus School last year as well. To fully understand the report, please see "Understanding Your report" .

New Science Curriculum!

Many thanks to our Family School Association for the purchase of our new Science Program! Divine Providence School is proud to announce that the middle school has adapted the HMH Science Dimensions Curriculum. The science department piloted the 3rd-5th science curriculum last year. The students were more engaged and there was an increase with the Aspire test scores. This program is engineered to meet the Next Generation Science Standards. The three-dimensional learning integrates the science & engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and the disciplinary core ideas.

Students will hypothesize models or problems presented from there everyday world. Students will perform experiments to pursue methods of scientific inquiry to gather data and evidence. Collecting data will then allow the students to draw their own conclusions. The students will be studying various units each year. The units designed for grades 6-8 are the following: Engineering, Life, Earth & Space, and Physical Science Modules. We are so excited about implementing this new program to our middle school students. The DP curriculum will also include the IJAS 8th Grade Science Fair and Science Olympiads per trimester. It is always great to be a DP Crusader!

Next week during morning announcements, we will listen to some of the parables that Jesus used to teach important truths about God's Kingdom and how we should live our lives. One of the parables we will hear is about how Jesus uses the image of building a house. If the foundation is strong like rock or steel, the house will stand, even in strong storms. He says that is we listen to his words and follow him, we are building our own strong foundation for our lives.

Family reflection- in your own life, what people or groups have given you a strong spiritual foundation?

New teacher and staff emails

Effective this year, all teachers and staff at DivineProvidence school will be using their new "Archdiocese of Chicago" email address. Teacher email addresses can be found on our school website. Please be advised that our new teachers do not have their Archdiocese email accounts created yet. As soon as they do, we will post them on the school website. If you need to contact your child's teacher and they do not have an email address, please send them a note or call the school and we will send the message. That you for you patience!
