Volunteers
At this time, due to current community case rates, we need to delay the start of in school volunteers. While this is disappointing, it is important for us to continue to reduce exposures to students and reduce the number of adults on campus. We hope community rates will lessen and we will be able to allow volunteers in the coming months. We must prioritize student health and safety and follow California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidance.
Decision Tree Change
The Decision Tree changed again as the guidance for quarantine for an out-of-school exposure has changed. Instead of being required to quarantine at home for 10 or 14 days, out-of-school exposures now allow for a student to return to school on Day 8 if they have a negative test result on Day 6 or 7. We know this is important as it gets students back to school sooner. We will share the updated Decision Tree when we receive it from the County.
Live Streaming Board Meetings
This week marked our first Board meeting that was held in person and was also live streamed. Each month for our regular board meetings, community members may tune into our EUSD Youtube Channel to watch the Board Meeting. Links to the Board Meetings can be found on our district website on the first page of the Board Agenda. You may also subscribe to the Youtube Channel via the link above.
On the Farm
EUSD Farm Lab is currently growing organic lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, melons, corn, pumpkins, beets, herbs and flowers. Once harvested, produce goes directly to our central kitchen for scratch made lunch items and the salad bar offerings at all nine school sites. Produce overages are sold at our Farm Stand every Tuesday from 2:00-5:00 p.m. The farm stand is run by our farming partners, The Ecology Center, and is open to the community; we hope to see you all there!
Student Education
Student visits to the DREAMS Campus (Design, Research, Engineering, Art, Math, & Science) resumed September 7th. Kindergarteners from Mission Estancia were our first visitors since the school closures in March 2020. All EUSD students will visit with their grade level this year for sustainability and wellness learning experiences grounded in Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the CA Environmental Principles and Concepts. We are so fortunate to have a unique partnership with the YMCA to provide safe transportation from schools to Farm Lab.
