Fire Prevention Week
The week of October 9th through October 15th is National Fire Prevention Week. The theme this year is:
"Fire won't wait. Plan your escape!"
In most cases fires are preventable, if you:
1. Install Smoke Alarms
2, Regularly Test Smoke Alarms
3. Install a Fire Extinguisher
4. Create and Practice a Fire Escape Plan
5. Cook Safely
6. Avoid Smoking indoors
7. Electrical Safety
Here are five tips to help you practice fire safety:
- Check that all smoke and fire alarms are functioning properly
- Have an actionable fire plan
- Never leave a room with an open flame
- Have at least one fire extinguisher
- Embrace the cliche - Stop, Drop, and Roll
We want to congratulate, Jacob Sandmeier, in Mrs. Dodd's Kindergarten classroom for placing 2nd in the Fire Prevention Coloring Contest for his grade level throughout our district.

We Have an App for Announcements!
TEXT "YES" TO 87569 TO RECEIVE WEATHER RELATED ANNOUNCEMENTS!
School announcements, such as weather related dismissals, late starts, or cancellations, in addition to reminders about Gertie Belle Rogers Elementary events, can be sent to you via text. You can download the app on your device by visiting the app or google play store and searching for ‘Mitchell School District’. Just a reminder that this is how you are notified when your child/ren’s school times are affected by weather. The school does not call individual parents.
Also, please make sure your phone number is updated and stays updated in Campus and with the school. You will receive text notifications, as long as you choose to accept them. These notifications would be primarily for weather related school late starts, early dismissals, and cancellations. These texts will come from the number “87569.” If you chose not to accept but wish to change your preference, you can text that number at any time.
WE HAVE COVID TESTS AVAILABLE IN THE OFFICE!

As a reminder to everyone there is NO PARKING allowed in the cut out on the north side of the school where the buses drop off and pick up students. Also, there is NO PARKING in front of the school in the cut out, as well, as this is a DROP OFF zone only.

Another Fantastic Book Fair
September saw another fabulous book fair. We had a huge turnout, including many grandparents on grandparent day.
I didn’t think it was possible to break our record breaking fair we had last spring, but WE DID!! Our fair totalled over $10,000!!! Thanks to some very kind “All for Books” donations from many who shopped, and a very generous donation from Megan and Justin Luther, we were able to make sure every student at GBR walked away with an item from the book fair. I also had an anonymous donation from a former staff member which allowed me to enact a “fast pass to the fair”. Each teacher was able to choose a student to come to the fair early in the week to choose an item for free.
A HUGE shoutout to my wonderful volunteers, Rachel Iverson, Kyleena Dumas, and Megan Luther for all of your hard work helping me out during the week. I don’t think I could have done it without you. We have the best supporters here at GBR.
The two classes with the most check ins was Mrs. Grabenstein and Mrs. Budahl. They get to spend $100 each for their classroom to help build their library or purchase whatever they would like to help enrich their classroom. Remember that online shopping is still open until October 1st. There are over 45 pages of options!!! I am sure you will find something your learner will love.
Thank you all for your support of our library. I appreciate you.
Mrs. Gerlach
