Math Updates
This week in Math we concluded Unit 1 involving math tools, time, and multiplication. We practiced elapsed time, multiplication strategies for our 2's, 5's, and 10's, finding equal shares, and estimating and measuring masses of objects.
Monday we will be reviewing for their first assessment which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
By the end of the week we will be starting Unit 2, which includes number stories and arrays.
Building a READING LIFE
This week in Reading, students practiced using strategies to improve comprehension, following textual clues as they read to shift between envisioning and assembling tasks, and making appropriate predictions.
We have begun our first read aloud, Stone Fox, and they are loving every minute of it :).
Word Study
Word Study tests were taken today, and new words will come home on Monday!
Monday nights- Students are to sort their words and record them in their notebooks. They are to also record their discovery or rule for the week.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights- Students should sort their words and read them as they sort. They can practice writing them on paper, whiteboards, or typing them. NO WRITTEN homework is required on these nights.
Thursday nights- Students are to ask an adult to quiz them on their words. They write the headers and then record the words as they are called out. The adult should use the notebook to correct the sort and ask the student to practice any words that were spelled incorrectly. This can be done on the back of the homework sheet. This paper should then be returned to school Friday morning.
Friday- there will be a test given
Writing long & strong
We continue to work on our Narrative unit.
THis week in writing we practiced "editing as you go" instead of leaving it all until the end. We also chose our seed stories and practiced "rehearsing" (telling the story aloud) to remind us of more details. We ended the week by starting our second draft which we will publish :).
