A little about me...
I was born right here in Botetourt County, and I love our community. Some of my favorite childhood memories were snow days because my mom was a teacher and she would have the day off with me. My dad would use the tractor to make sledding paths around our farm. I also played softball in the rec league and at James River so there are lots of special memories of that too!
What did you want to be when you grew up? A scientist
Unique skill or talent: I can do a headstand
Hobbies/Interests: Yoga, reading, kayaking, walking, and Dolphins Football
My blind date to James River homecoming during junior year was from Lord Botetourt. Now we're married!
A little about my family...
I am the youngest of three siblings; my sisters are 11 and 13 years older than me. My husband, Chris, and I have been married for 18 years and we have two remarkable children: Holly is 12 and Macy is 10. We have two Cocker Spaniels, Ginger and Hazel, and they are such good dogs! Our whole family LOVES the beach! One of our favorite traditions is creating a holiday scene out of lights on our roof each winter.
A little about my education...
Elementary School: Eagle Rock & Breckinridge
Bobbie Bowman was my favorite teacher in Kindergarten and 2nd grade.
Middle School: Botetourt Intermediate
I was in the last 'graduating' class before it was renamed to Central Academy Middle School. My favorite teacher was Mary Lynne Leffel in 7th and 8th grade.
High School: James River
Go Knights! I played softball and competed on James River's first cross country team. I worked as the boys basketball team bookkeeper and was a member of NHS, SCA, and FCA. I was also our class president.
College: James Madison University
My favorite classes were my humanities seminar and biology. I majored in biology with a concentration in environmental studies. During college, I worked at the bookstore, in the microbiology prep lab, and at an elementary school. I graduated one semester early but got to stay at JMU to work and continue my undergraduate research. I discovered a type of bacteria living on the backs of salamanders that provides antimicrobial properties against a deadly fungus. I also have a Master's of Education in Health Education & Promotion.
