DHS Weekly Update
Thursday, October 21, 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
DHS Families,
This week we have hosted a chorus concert and tonight there is a band concert. In the next couple of weeks, we will have a one-act play and our fall musical. Our football team remains undefeated, our flag football team has won 3 out of 4 games this season, and our band has won numerous awards in weekend competitions! Today was also the first day of surveillance testing here at Decatur High School. Whew . . . we are a busy and exciting place!
On our website, we have a link to the Voicebox (https://www.csdecatur.net/dhs). This is a way for students to report moments where they feel tension, hurt, or anger by the actions of those around them. As a school leader, I cannot follow up on what I do not know so the Voicebox was created by students and staff as a communication method toward the goal of becoming an anti-racist community. In order to hold myself accountable, I report the number of Voicebox submissions to the SLT each month (August = 0, September = 1, October = 3). In a spirit of transparency, I am also working on some scenarios to share with this community so that everyone understands the process for investigation and possible consequences. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Intermediate Acting Performance of "The 146 Point Flame"
Wednesday, October 27th at 7 pm
Advanced Acting Performance of "The 146 Point Flame"
Thursday, October 28th at 7 pm
This piece is based on the historic 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City. Through words, movement and music, four young women share their dreams, thoughts, fears, and feelings about their ultimate destinies. An Italian immigrant, Vincenza, shares her last night on Earth with romance, smiles, and dancing. Tessa celebrates her life with a story about her brother and mother. Sisters Lena and Yetta meditate on the strength and endurance of moving from Russia to America and the parallels of moving from life to the afterlife. Touching and poetic, this piece illuminates the definition of human courage.

District News
School Nutrition Department
National School Lunch Week was just last week, and we wanted to give a BIG thank you to all our students for eating with us! At the K-5 level, we had a ton of students draw beautiful coloring sheets and return them to our cafeteria spaces. We also passed out stickers, bookmarks, and temporary tattoos. The majority of our staff (and many of our students!) dressed up in animal print on Friday 10/15 to celebrate the end of an awesome week of lunches. We enjoyed delicious and nutritious meals at no cost and celebrated school lunch with an awesome attitude!
