Writing Your College Essay - From The Heart
Recently, the Common application, an online application that you complete once then can apply to over 700 different colleges and universities, released their essay questions for the 2020 - 2021 application season. You can get a head start on your essay by looking over the topics and choosing one that would best express your experiences. Do not feel pressured to answer one topic over another because it seems more impressive, rather choose the topic that will best capture answer and reflects your As in past application seasons, the most chosen topic is "Write about a topic of your choice.". This option allows you to create your essay, and present exactly what you want the admissions teams to know.
Once you complete your essay, you should have someone read it for errors, but be careful of someone putting so many of their ideas and thoughts into your essay that it no longer is your product. The essay must remain your voice to best represent yourself during the application process.
Your counselors and teachers are great resources to use to review your essay. Be sure to reach out to them for assistance. For more information on the Common application essay prompts for 2020-2021 visit: Common App Essay Prompts
Remember, the essay is not just an opportunity to express fun ideas and show your personality, you are also providing the college an example of your writing abilities. So take this time to brainstorm ideas and find topics that you would like to use to express your story in writing. Final thoughts...Express yourself from your HEART!
