Booth Hill School

Bobcat Update September 11

Principal's Message

What a week it was at 545 Booth Hill Road! We kicked off our Walk-a-thon on Thursday with a Mr. Softee ice-cream truck courtesy of our PTA. Later that evening, we welcomed parents to our Back to School Night. As I mentioned in my remarks to all of you, Back to School Night felt like we were finally home. Just gathering together in the cafeteria with all of you after two years of distancing and masks, brought the Booth Hill community energy to the building. If you thought Thursday was a great day at Booth Hill, Friday brought our community to another level. I don't have the final count, but over 700 people attended the Father's Club barbeque on one of the prettiest days in September. This was a reunion like no other. I was able to talk with parents I haven't seen in awhile and caught up with a lot of former Bobcats. It was also a chance for our new families to meet neighbors and to form new friendships. Just seeing all of you on the back fields with your children was all I needed to inspire me! I'm still in awe of how all the dads and Trumbull High volunteers were able to grill the amount of hamburgers and hot dogs for the number of people we had. The batting cages, archery games, dunk tank, and other carnival activities made this one spectacular kick-off to the 2023 school year. Kudos to Mr. Dwelle, Mr. Prieto, and Mr. Breschard for braving the chilly waters of the dunk-tank.

As we move through September, students will continue to learn all of the expectations and procedures of our math, reading and writers' workshops. We also continue to teach and reinforce R.O.A.R.S. in all of our settings. The Booth Hill community always supports our work by discussing Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility, and Safety with their children. When you have a moment at the dinner table, asking your children--what does respect look like in the cafeteria? How do you show a good attitude in your classroom? These are just a few questions to spark a conversation

My best to all of you for a great week,

Dana

News from the Art Room

Hello Booth Hill!

I would like to say how extremely happy and excited I am for our year together. We are going to create a lot of great art this year. Kindergarten will become familiar with their lines, shapes and colors while looking at the artwork of Kandinsky. First grade will be painting flowers and learning about tints and shades while looking at the work of Georgia O’Keefe. Second grade will be exploring pattern and movement while being inspired by the work of Keith Haring. Third graders will be creating pinch pot monsters out of clay. Fourth grade will learn about pattern and design while working with zentangles. Fifth grade will look at the work of Jasper Johns and create a symbolic, multimedia piece of art.
