Math
Monday, I will review with the students, and then they'll take their Multiplication Post-Test. Tuesday, we'll draw pictures to show how we would solve division problems using equal groups. Wednesday, we'll solve division problems using a tape diagram. Thursday, we'll wrap up with a review of division, and on Friday, the students will be taking the Post-Test.
Reading
Monday, we will discuss what makes a book too easy, too hard, or just right for us. Tuesday, we will define the meaning of stamina and see how it relates to our reading. Wednesday, the students will learn what real reading is. If they're doing real reading, they are thinking about what they read by making predictions & connections, asking themselves questions, and more. Thursday & Friday, we'll learn how to take what we've read and make deep connections with events in our own lives or other texts that we've read.
Writing & Spelling
Monday, the students will take their Capitalization Pretest. Tuesday, we will discuss how to take our hook and lead into the introductory paragraph of our narrative. Wednesday, we will discuss how to "show not tell" with our writing especially as we describe our characters and setting. Thursday, the students will learn how to climb a story mountain as they write about the first important event in their story. Friday, we'll look back at what we wrote for our first important event and see what sensory details we can add in as we revise our stories.
During Spelling Unit #7, we will cover: words containing vowel-consonant-e, rhyming words, analogies, and inferences.
Social Studies
In our study of maps & Missouri, we will be doing some online research Monday to learn facts about our state. Tuesday, the students will explore the 4 regions of Missouri and what each region is best known for. Thursday, we will create a map of Missouri including symbols, a key, a compass rose, and major cities & rivers. Friday, the students will create a map showing Missouri and its 8 border states.
