All Things Rushing!
Principal's Message!
Hello Raptor Family,
It was an exciting week filled with volleyball games, cross country meets, lots of band, choir, orchestra, theatre and football practice, student council meetings and lots of learning! I am beyond impressed with our kiddos and our teachers and they continue to amaze and inspire me every day! I have to also add that our students have been rock stars about adhering to mask and social distancing protocols. We continue to move forward in the safest environment possible. I am also thankful to everyone that has reached out with questions and concerns.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to share with me your concerns and observations so we can create the best possible learning plan for each and every kiddo! While there is always room for growth and improvement, without discussion and communication, that growth cannot happen. Thank you again!
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns! Thank you for your continued support and, as I have said, with GRACE, GRATITUDE, and KINDNESS, we can resolve any issue and move forward for the success of our students at Rushing Middle School, GO RAPTORS!
Sincerely,
Danielle Wallace
Tutoring Schedule!
Counseling Corner!
September has been a great month for our Rushing Raptors. Students have learned about responsibility, accountability and suicide prevention. This week the focus will be on diversity and inclusiveness. 6th graders will focus on perspective and why it is important for conflict resolution and problem solving. 7th grade will focus on stereotypes, where they come from, why they are harmful and what we can do about them. In 8th grade, we will learn about the different types of bias with a focus on being aware of prejudice, discrimination and implicit bias.

Speaker Presentation!
BIO
Collin Kartchner created a popular parody Instagram account simply to poke fun of social media and used that account to raise awareness of the harmful effects social media can have on our self-esteem and self-worth. Instead of using his large following to earn paid sponsorship dollars, he used his platform to raise $100k's for hurricane victims, cancer kids, and now has become a social activist raising awareness of social media's effect on teen mental health. He travels the country speaking to kids, parents, educators, and more on the connection between social media and screen addiction on the epidemic rise in teen anxiety, depression, and suicidality. This past year, Collin has presented to 600,000+ individuals at over 500 speaking engagements. His movement to #SavetheKids has gained national attention, earning him a spot on Utah Valley's Top 40 Under 40, an audience at the NIKE and Adidas Headquarters, and a spot on the TEDx stage in September 2018. Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes said that “Collin is a WARRIOR for our kids.” He and his high school crush Elizabeth live in Pleasant Grove, UT, with their 4 amazing un-plugged kids.

Career Day Speakers Needed!
In order to best fit the needs of our current circumstances regarding health and safety, we will be hosting Career Day virtually. We are asking any interested speaker to select one of the following options:
1. Submit a 20-25 minute video which will answer guided questions provided by the RMS counseling department.
2. Commit to appear live virtually through Google Meet from 9am to 10:35am for 3 different student groups (30 minutes each) on November 20th to discuss your career path and answer questions from students.
Our goal for Career Day is to expose our students to as many different career fields and educational backgrounds as possible. If you are interested in being a guest in one of the two formats listed above, please complete this Google Form, and we will be in contact with you.
Please direct any questions to Torrey Eckert (tneckert@prosper-isd.net). Thank You!
