⚛️ Getting Excited about Science! 🔬
Central Hudson's Kilowatt Kitchen Assembly will be on March 22nd (PreK-5) and the live theatrical program educates students about a wide variety of important topics; including, how we measure energy use, how energy is wasted and conserved and what renewable resources are.
Mad Science will be visiting Sargent over next few weeks to work with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders! In these hands on assemblies, students will work together to explore different topics and perform experiments that correlate with their science curriculum. Looking forward to some awesome workshops!
2nd Grade - All About Animals (3/23)
3rd Grade - Rocket Launch (3/28)
4th Grade - Electric Current Events (4/13)
Forestiere/Comitto/Breyer/Seaman - March 28th
Gibbons/Galante/Sandison - March 29th
The first Sargent STEAM Fair is coming this May! Students who filled out an application to participate, have received them back and should be conferencing with their teacher, in the coming weeks, about their progress. Students and teachers will complete a STEAM Fair project "progress checklist." Since projects and experiments require a lot of time and preparation, it is important to plan ahead! In April, we will run a few STEAM Fair extra help sessions for any students who meet to seek help from a teacher. Dates for these sessions will be announced soon. Check out the resources on the website in the STEAM Fair corner. Below are two videos that explain how to take your STEAM Fair project idea and turn it into an experiment. Can't wait to see lots of amazing projects on May 18th!
NYS Assessments in ELA & Mathematics
The NYS assessments dates are listed below. Students in grades 3-5 will take the exams in the morning on the designated testing days. NYS assessment data is another data point that we use to inform instruction and scores do not negatively impact students in any way. 4th and 5th graders will do computer based testing while 3rd graders will take the paper exam. If you have any questions about the upcoming state exams, please call the main office.

Gearing up for Earth Month ♻️
Spring is coming and our Environmental Club is gearing up to participate in USAgain's Earth Month challenge. To help us, save any clothing items, shoes, linens or other textiles and bring them to Sargent during the month of April. Besides keeping clothes out of landfills, everytime we fill up a bin, USAgain plants a tree. Clean out those closets and bring those unwanted items to our USAgain bin!
