A Principal's Perspective
Can you relate to one of the pictures below describing how you feel after this week? Tired, sleepy, sick? It has been a busy week full of Valentine's fun, field trips, STAAR practice testing, teaching, and planning! Whew! I appreciate each of you helping out as we supported our fellow staff members out sick this week as we covered classes. Hopefully, the weekend will bring a much needed reprieve of rest and relaxation!
Today was a wonderful day as our Deep Dive team led by Tracy Brice explored proactive steps to address the achievement gap among our student groups specifically our African American students. As you know this continues to be a campus, district, state and national dilemma. Our team's goal is to move beyond discussing the issue to finding solutions for our campus. Today's meeting we were in for a treat! Charla Anderson's Aunt Tish came to visit our team. Aunt Tish will be 95 year's old this year! She was a counselor and counselor director in Houston ISD. Her grandson drove her to College Station. We were fortunate to have him as well because he provided such insight when he was a student. Just to share one of his quotes as he described his learning differences not his learning disabilities that required the teacher and him to change "learning the way the teacher teaches to learning the way I learn." To finish out our meeting, Charla's son Kohl and his girlfriend, stopped by. We were able to ask them questions to gain their perspective. What a great afternoon of learning!! Awesome conversations! Thank you, Charla for arranging such a special visit. See pictures below for highlights.
