April is Fine Arts Month
DES will be celebrating Fine Arts Month in April! Our theme will be, “Go For the Gold!” There will be a variety of school-wide activities that will focus on things about the Olympics during music, art, and gym class. Fine Arts Month is a fun and important month that recognizes the value of the arts in our schools! We hope your children enjoy the things we have planned. If you have questions, please let us know!

Life in 6th Grade
Sixth grade has had an exciting year with many terrific events in the coming months to wrap up the year. In Literature, students will be creating movies based on their final books of the school year. Students are working on science projects focusing on cells and human body systems. In Social Studies, we are learning about ancient Chinese and Egyptian civilizations. The last chapters of the year in math focus on ratios, statistics, and probability. Our writing focus right now is persuasive writing.
Each homeroom will be visiting the middle school to prepare our students for next year. We will go to the Overture Center for the third and final time in May to see Black Violins. We end the year with our annual graduation trip to Mt. Olympus Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells.

2017-2018 PTO NEWS
Thank you to everyone who ordered pizzas for conference nights! We hope this provided you with a quick and easy meal option for those busy nights. We'll look to gather feedback during our next meeting to decide if we should offer this at future conference nights or not. If you have any feedback, feel free to send it in or come to the next PTO meeting.
The PTO sponsored an enrichment program before Spring Break called Reptiles are Cool. The kids had a blast getting hands-on with a wide variety of reptiles! We hope to be able to continue funding these programs in the future as they are great learning opportunities for the students.
SchoolKidz school supply order forms will be coming home the first week in April. We receive great feedback on these kits as an easy option to get all required school supplies each year. Orders will be due mid April. Online ordering is appreciated!
We will be looking for volunteers to help plan this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week. A post will be published soon. Please let us know if you are interested in helping out!
Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 9th at 6:30 pm. Remember that we have free babysitting if you need it. We had great attendance in March and hope to keep this momentum going in April!
