Dire Wolves
The Great Wolves
The wolf
The reason I chose the Dire wolf is that i was looking up cool wolves and the Dire wolf came up. Ever since then I have been trying to find everything about these animals. It is now extinct so no one really knows much about the Dire Wolf so its hard to get information. Then I compared the Dire wolf to the Saber Tooth tiger and found out that the Dire wolf is better not because of its' strength but because the Dire wolf alway hunts in packs of 20 or more, occasionally less as in the picture. These Dire wolves and the Saber Tooth tiger were found in the La Brea tar pits.
Description
If you look at the Dire you will see that it was about 125 to 175 pounds. They would go in packs of 20 or more, unlike gray wolves. Their teeth were made for tearing not chewing, which meant that they swallowed their food whole.
Size Comparison to the Gray Wolf
The Dire wolf is a little bit taller and longer than the Gray wolf and far superior in strength. The Dire has bigger teeth and hunts in bigger packs.
Habitat
In North America, it roamed from plains and grasslands to forested mountain areas. In South America, it lived in areas of the savannah.
WSCA
The person or people who started our school thought that wolves were cool, so they made it our mascot.
