Northside Elementary School
January 22-26, 2024
Hello Northside family!
We had a great short week even with our unexpected power outage on Wednesday. We do our very best to notify everyone of unplanned events like last week through Remind text notifications, email, or social media platforms. If you have not signed up for our Remind, please text to 81010 with code @b37e7kb. This will allow immediate notifications of school events or other important messages. As always, Northside´s top concern is the safety of our students. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
Although we were able to celebrate the 100th and 101st day of school with our students, we had to reschedule our 100 Ways to Love Math Title 1 Event due to the power outage. We have rescheduled the event for Friday, February 16th (the day before Winter Break). This is a Title 1 Family Engagement Event to help our parents a better understanding of the new math curriculum.
See the following times for your grade level:
- 8:30-9:30am (4th and 5th grade)
- 12:30-1:30pm (2nd and 3rd grade)
Kindergarten and 1st grade will send out video links to all of their parents to provide an overview of the math curriculum, activities, and tips to incorporate at home.
This week, we will get back into our routines. We will be recognizing students who have achieved their next levels on our Reading Challenge on Monday. On Wednesday, we will have a School Council meeting in Media Centers. Members should report at 3:00pm in the Media Center. Next, our Academic Bowl team will host the second meet of the year at Northside on Thursday afternoon. Finally, on Friday, we will celebrate our students with good behavior as well as perfect/good attendance from the first semester. Crumbl Cookie has generously donated perfect/good attendance certificates and a free Crumbl cookie of those who qualify.
As always, thank you for sending your children to us each day. Our mission is Nurturing, Educating, and Serving. We look forward to seeing you volunteering or joining our PTO.
Sincerely,
NES Admin Team

Attendance Matters!
We are so excited to share the news that for two consecutive months, Northside Elementary received recognition at the county level for top student attendance! We are continually working to make our school environment a place where everyone feels safe, healthy, and ready to learn. We are partnering with Crumbl Cookie to highlight our students with good and perfect attendance at the end of the semester. Crumbl Cookie is providing a certificate for one cookie to be redeemed in the Newnan location at Ashley Park. Let's continue to work together to support student success.
What Can Families Do to Support Student Attendance?
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Families can start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that students go to school on time, every day. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and in their careers. Here are some suggestions:
Build regular routines for bedtime and the morning,
Set out clothes and pack backpacks the night before,
Pack lunches the night before,
If there is a reason that they aren't looking forward to school regularly, please reach out and let us know so we can address it,
Schedule family trips when school is not in session when possible,
Schedule medical appointments after dismissal if possible, and
Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school. Regular attendance helps to make and build connections with friends and staff. It also supports learning!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Trahan, our attendance clerk, or Mrs. Addison, the principal at the school at 770-254-2896.
The above families are our 2023-2024 Northside Partners. We greatly appreciate their donation, and we will use this funding to benefit all of our students in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to ensuring field trips for all students, student recognition programs, and other curriculum needs.. If you or someone you know would like to become a Northside Partner, please click HERE . If you have any specific questions, please contact Amy Addison, Northside's principal, at 770-254-2836 or by email, amy.addison@cowetaschools.net.

Keeping Our Students Safe at School is Our Top Priority
Northside has strong safety protocols in place, and our staff and students will practice these protocols throughout the year. It is important to remember that safety is a shared responsibility. We ask that all of our families and visitors adhere to our strict guidelines for safety when they visit our school to volunteer, attend conferences, or eat lunch. The only door that will be unlocked at the school is the front door going into the office. Once you enter the building, you will be asked to sign in using your ID. You will receive a Visitor's Badge, and then Mrs. Trahan will buzz you into the main building. When you are in the building, we ask that you go directly to the area where you are volunteering, having a meeting, or to the lunchroom. The only visitors who should go to a classroom are those who are scheduled to volunteer on that day. Finally, no visitors will be allowed to use our students' bathrooms. We have adult bathrooms for all staff and visitors.
We hope you understand the reasons for our strict procedures and will help us by adhering to them throughout the year. There is nothing more important to all of us than the safety of our precious children.
