We will create a culture of high expectations through motivation and bring awareness to student self-worth. We will help our students grow confidence and empathy. These aspects will produce a sense of pride, which will be seen in our entire Harlan community.

Grade Level News

Kindergarten News:

Kindergarten Field Trip December 6, 2018. We are going to Santa's Village in Huntsville, AL. Cost will be $25.00. The due date for money is December 3, 2018. We can not take any money after this date. Look for information in your child's folder.

First Grade News:

Please remember to study site words and read daily.

Second Grade News:

Second grade will be going on their first field trip to Cathedral Caverns in Woodville, AL on Monday, October 15th. Money for the field trip is due to be paid in full by Monday, October 8, 2018.

Third Grade News

Third Grade: Please be on the lookout for field trip information coming home in the next few weeks!

Fourth Grade News

Our Accelerated Reader Goal for this nine weeks is 20 points. Students may only take A.R. tests at school. However, they are encouraged to read at home!

P.E. News from Mr. Calahan & Mrs. Horton

We have been working on different variations of Tag games as well as learning new games such as Hula Hoop Paper, Rock, Scissors, Cardio Drumming and Hula Hut. This week we will be working on Volleyball skills.

Welcome Coach Miller

First we would like to welcome Coach Miller from UNA. He is our student intern in P.E. through October.

Track Club

Beginning September 21, we will officially start our Track Club. Track days will normally be each Friday. Your child may bring a bottle of water on track day. Please place their name on their bottle and remember NO flavored water or Gatorade.

Bring a Parent to P.E.

On September 26th we will have a special track day. This is to celebrate “Bring a Parent to P.E.”. Parents may come during their child’s P.E. time and walk and jog with their child! Come join the Fun!!!!


Tennis Shoes should be wore every day for P.E. We love safe play and healthy feet and ankles!

Each week, Dr. Casteel and Mrs. Edwards will be handing out Reading Bags. Every time your child brings a bag back they will receive a new bag of different books to read. We hope every Harlan Hero will read 20 minutes per day at home! Thank you for supporting us in this initiative!
