The Manning Weekly Update

September 24, 2021

I hope you all had a great week! We had a great week here at Manning; a busy week, but a great one. A couple things to note prior to beginning our weekends:

1.) There is a new tik tok challenge that is challenging students to steal and vandalize school property. This week alone, we've had graffiti in our bathrooms and more than one soap dispenser ripped off the wall. NOT O.K. We know that the majority of our students are doing what they should be doing each and every day. We have only a few students that aren't being good community members, and we putting structures in place this upcoming Monday to catch those students that are vandalizing Manning. Please speak with your child at home this weekend and if they know the students that are engaging in this behavior, have them come see me in the office on Monday. I promise I will keep their identity anonymous.

2.) Parent/Teacher conferences are in less than two weeks! Please see the info below.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Better Together,

Christian Ramaker

Parent/Teacher Conferences:

    • This is in person only. Families are welcome to drop in anytime between 4:30 - 7:15 p.m. No appointment required. Please note that the last conference will be held at 7:20 p.m., so please plan ahead and get here earlier in the evening. Conferences will be held in classrooms. A teacher location map will be provided to you upon arrival.

  • Wednesday, October 6th, 4:30-7:30 p.m. (Google Meet only)

    • Virtual conferences are “invite only” on Wednesday, October 6th. Teachers will be reaching out to families by Wednesday, September 29th with a letter explaining the process. We will have 8 minutes for each conference, as we are trying to touch base with as many families as possible during this 3 hour conference window.

Please note: If your student has a teacher for both a core class and an elective, you will only have the one time slot to meet with them to discuss both classes.

  • We are here for each family and support the success of each of our students. Keep in mind, if you are not able to make the in person night or you are not invited to the virtual conferences you are always welcome to set up an in person, phone, or virtual conference with any of your student’s teachers.

Be in the know!

Dear Manning families,

It’s official – October Count Day this year is Friday, October 1. The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school on that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count so we encourage you to be sure your child engages in school that day.

The “count window” the state observes is from Friday, September 24 through Friday, October 8 but the most important student count day is Friday, October 1. Please help us ensure an accurate count by having your student participate in learning that day. We understand that Thursday, October 7 and Friday, October 8 are non-student contact days, so we encourage you to have your student in attendance on the other days during the count window.

If your child will be absent on Friday, October 1 due to illness, call our attendance line, 303-982-6340 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on Friday, October 1.

Thank you for your support of The Manning school of Academics & Arts. Every child counts!

Dear Families,

Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention Month? With the rapid increase of digital devices in our TechForEd 1:1 program and use of social media platforms across the board, there has never been a better time to engage in meaningful conversations around mindful technology use.

During the month of October, many of our 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade classrooms will engage in digital citizenship learning related to Cyberbullying, Digital Drama, and Hate Speech. Unfortunately, many students will encounter mean behavior at some point in their digital lives. Some of these experiences are easily forgotten, while others can have deep, long-lasting effects. For families, the key is staying involved in your children's lives -- both in the physical and online worlds -- so you can step in and offer help, if necessary.

This month, you can help your child(ren) learn how to avoid the drama and stand up for others by using these resources:

Monthly Motto: We are kind & courageous.

Discussion Question for School and Home: How can I connect positively, treat others respectfully, and create a culture of kindness?

Cyberbullying, Digital Drama & Hate Speech Family Activities:

Grades 6-8 English Spanish

Family Tips Sheet
