Friday Morning Meeting
AM Drop Off
A wonder you might have....older kiddos being dropped off on Pleasant Street, walking up to the upper lot early or just appearing in the upper parking lot before 7:35 AM. These are OV kiddos and they have to catch a 7:35 AM bus. I have spoken with individual families about a plan to drop off their OV children (and sometimes their older siblings) that will look outside of our typical drop-off procedures as they do not need supervision and they will miss their bus if they utilize the drop off line.
Character Traits of the Month
Each month we will have an assembly where we will learn about different character traits.
We will also celebrate by awarding students who demonstrate the character traits that we will be exploring with certificates.
This month we will be exploring Kindness and what it means to be kind.
Parent Notification ESSA Section 1112(e)(1)(A)
To: All Parents
From: Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union
Date: September 15, 2021
Subject: Notification to Parents of Teacher Qualifications
As a parent of a student at Lothrop Elementary School, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child, and Federal law requires the school district to provide you this information in a timely manner, if you request it. Specifically, you have the right to ask for the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers:
• Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
• Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of special circumstances.
• The teacher's college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
• Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.
If you would like to receive any of this information, please call your child’s principal.
Sincerely,
Debbie Alexander

Four Winds
DO YOU LOVE NATURE?!
We are excited to be bringing science and nature explorations to Lothrop as part of the Four Winds Nature Program again this year! This program, which serves scores of elementary schools around the region, engages parents and community members as volunteers to get children outside discovering nearby nature. Our students have the opportunity to observe the natural world, ask questions, and investigate their discoveries. And the lessons help students address important learning standards. How wonderful for chidden to have the chance to explore natural science every season right out the classroom door!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?!
Nurturing a child’s sense of place and sense of wonder is important work. And this is the goal of our school’s Nature Program volunteers. There is a two-hour volunteer training workshop each month where we learn the information and do the activities that we will bring into the classrooms. A Four Winds naturalist educator leads this workshop and helps us tailor the lessons to different grade levels and abilities( the program is offered for grades K-4). Then, teams of classroom volunteers teach the lessons to the students. Volunteers stay with the same classroom all year, so it’s a great way to get to know the kids and teachers in our community
WE HOPE YOU’LL JOIN US!!
No science degree or teaching certificate is required to be a wonderful Four Winds volunteer, just an eager interest in learning and sharing. Nature Program volunteers dedicate about 4-5 hours each month to the program- attending the two hour workshop, preparing materials, and leading the lesson. This year, due to COVID, all training sessions and class workshops will be 100% outdoors. Because of this, we will be offering workshops in October, November, March, April, and May only. Training sessions will be at the Pittsford Rec Center Pavilion on the second Friday of the month from 9 to 11 AM. All are welcome! You can find out more information about Four Winds and the Nature Program at www.fwni.org or by contacting Margaret Daly at 802-282-6079 or meadaly66@comcast.net.
