Hello MTE Community!

What a first full week of the 2020 School Year this has been. I have been so impressed by your perseverance and support of our students. I am pleased to share that we have been connected with every student in our school, including our kinders who just started school on Monday. I know that there have been a number of tech challenges to start the year, but I see our community rising to the challenge.

Some upcoming supports at MTE next week are:

There will be a drive up Food Pantry on Tuesday, September 22nd from 1-2 pm. Food will be given out on a first come first served basis. However, our goal is to provide food to all that are in need.

In person technology assistance available at MTE Thursday, September 24 (Note date Correction), 2020 5-7pm

Staff will be available on site at our school to help you problem solve your tech needs. Please bring your charged Chromebook and log in information. Help will be available in English and Spanish. If you require help in another language please contact Angie Peters at

If you are having difficulty connecting to your student's online classroom, please email the teacher to let them know what you are having trouble with and then, if needed, call Student Technical Support at (425) 431-1211. If you still are having trouble, call the office, we will do our best to get support for you as soon as possible.

Thank you to the parents who are learning how to best support their children's learning at home. Thank you to the teachers for learning a new way of teaching and creating community with their learners. Thank you to the paraeducators who have stepped in to support in ways they have never had to before and are ROCKIN' it! Thank you to the office staff and support staff for supporting students/families outside the front door, at people's homes, over the phones, and via Zoom. You all are what makes Mountlake Terrace Elementary an amazing place for kids!

You might be the person who secures over $100,000 dollars for our students!

We still need you to fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch application even though all kids 1 - 18 years of age can receive school meals through December. We receive significant funding, over $100,000 dollars, when we have over 50% of our students on the Free and Reduced lunch program by the end of September.

We are so close! We are over 48%. Even if you never plan for your children to eat school lunches, if you think you might qualify, please send in your application AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This information remains confidential and is only shared with school administration, not other school staff. Please, please, please fill out and and turn in your application by Friday, September 25th. (Applications will still be accepted after this date but will not count towards our school percentage.)

Update your student Chromebook

A few of our staff members volunteerd at the recent family tech support event at MTHS. They discovered that most of the issues families are having with Chromebooks can be fixed by simply updating the Chromebook. Zoom is especially touchy if the Chromebook isn't updated, so when things like the camera, microphone, and/or staying connected aren't working, the first step is always to update the Chromebook. Also, the next important step is to restart the Chromebook. It will ask you if you want to restart it after the update is loaded, but it will not do it automatically.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Turn on your Chromebook.
  2. Connect your Chromebook to Wi-Fi.
  3. At the bottom right, select the time.
  4. Select Settings .
  5. At the bottom of the left panel, select About Chrome OS.
  6. Under "Google Chrome OS," you'll find which version of the Chrome operating system your Chromebook uses.
  7. Select Check for updates.
  8. If your Chromebook finds a software update, it will start to download automatically.
  9. Restart the Chromebook

We hope this helps!
