Wrightstown Elementary School
June 4, 2021
Dear WES Families,
Students' excitement as we inch closer to summer is growing by the day! The Reading Party this week was a lot of fun and provided an opportunity for students to be outdoors with friends and a good book! It was a WIN WIN!
As the year comes to a close I would like to thank WES PTO President, Ms. Tanya Close who will be moving on with her children to middle school. The leadership and support she provided to WES students and staff are much appreciated. Congratulations to Mrs. Julie Shilane who will move to the role of PTO President starting this summer. Additionally, I would like to welcome Mrs. Heather Heckathorn and Mrs. Melanie Swain-Knapp who will both serve as Co-Vice Presidents on the Board.
The forecast for the weather next week includes some very hot days. Although WES is an air-conditioned school, there are times when children get outside each day. Please be sure to send your child to school with a water bottle to keep them healthy and hydrated.
Please be sure to review the information included in this week's newsletter. Most notable is the recent change to face masks in schools for students and staff as well as some important dates to note.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Beth

Yearbooks are here!
For any student that ordered a yearbook, they will be distributed in homerooms next Tuesday, June 8th. I would like to send a big THANK YOU to Mrs. McElhaugh and Mrs. McKenzie for the endless hours of time spent working to create this special book for students during this challenging year!

Please remember all medications need to be picked up from the Health Office by the last day of school (6/11/21). As per district policy, any medications left will be discarded.
PTO KONA Ice Celebration
In celebration of the end of the school year, the WES PTO is sponsoring a Student & Staff Appreciation KONA ICE NIGHT on Thursday, June 10th from 4:00-6:45 pm. The KONA ICE truck will be parked by the gym. Stop by, and each WES student, teacher, and staff member will be treated to a FREE Kona Ice. This year has been a challenging year, and we want to acknowledge everyone's hard work and extra effort with a token of our appreciation. Parents, siblings, and additional family members are welcome to purchase a treat for a donation.
Selected flavors (blue raspberry, ninja cherry, cotton candy blue, lemonade, monster mango) will be offered to keep the line moving efficiently. Please refer to the attachments for a list of ingredients, including food coloring additives and allergy information. We hope that all students and staff enjoy this special celebration in their honor!
Counselor's Corner with Ms. Gulnac
This school year has brought many unprecedented experiences, thoughts, feelings and challenges for students and parents alike. Before you pack up for the shore and leave this year behind, take some time to reflect with your kid(s). See the questions below to get the conversation started! Consider having your kid(s) write down their answers.

Literacy Corner with Mrs. Etgen
As summer approaches, please make sure to celebrate the growths that your children have made during this incredibly difficult school year! They have worked hard this year to grow as readers and writers, and the results are obvious. Also, please remember that this growth and progress has occurred because of the daily activities to support it. That being said, please make sure to carve time out of your daily summer schedule for reading and writing. I will be providing a plethora of Language Arts activities that will honestly keep your child engaged all summer long. You will be able to locate this on our school website, as well as my website. The summer slide happens every year to many students, and it is easily avoided by just putting 30 minutes a day aside for reading and writing activities.
Speaking of celebrating, our Summer Beach Party was a fantastic success! The students all seemed to enjoy reading outside on their towels and munching on their soft pretzels. If your child has not logged their minutes in for last month, please have them do so ASAP at this link so that we can schedule our incentive - Mrs. Fox’s Pie in the Face Day!
Thank you for all your reading support at home, and please be on the lookout for the Summer Reading Activities that will be sent next week!
REMINDERS!
Class End of the Year Outdoor Celebrations
Teachers and Homeroom parents are hard at work planning class end-of-year outdoor celebrations. We of course will continue to implement the district’s Health and Safety Plan to ensure safe and comfortable events for all. Below I highlighted a few things to know that has also been shared with HR teachers:
- All parents and siblings can attend end-of-year classroom celebrations that are held outdoors only.
- Parents will sign in and take a visitor’s badge from tables that will be located outside the front of the building.
- Food should be individually wrapped or plated and handed out by parents only.
- Bathroom use is restricted to students and staff only.
- The Health & Safety Plan should be followed.
