Making Time For Family

North Side Families,

Would you believe that the first trimester is coming to an end this week? Thursday is the final day of trimester 1. We are 1/3 of the way through the school year!

My husband and I were driving to the store the other night and talking about our children. Our oldest is a senior in high school and we were reminiscing about his travel baseball days and the family time that created for us and how much we missed that! My husband commented that he barely sees our oldest and he just never thought it would be like this.

Of course, this got us thinking about how we could build in some quality family time every week, maybe a dinner out or game night. Well, this time of year is the perfect time to spend with your family!

I thought I might share some family time ideas with all of you. Make time for family now and always! Time goes fast and before you know it, they will be leaving the nest.

Some great things to do during the holiday season:

- Holiday Movie Night

- Make Pinecone Bird Feeders (peanut butter, bird seed)

- Go through your gently used toys and clothes and donate to someone in need

- Volunteer together (Humane Shelter, Homeless Shelter, Bell Ringing)

- Bake Cookies and Candies

- Board Game Night

- Put puzzles together

- Set up a scavenger hunt

- Go for a family walk

- Make holiday cards for the elderly at nursing homes near you or military troops

- Have a family craft night

- Charades

And I am sure you will come up with many more fun activities to do as a family! Make it a special time together.

Yours in education,

Stephanie Leasure

Principal

Trimester 1 Gallery Walk

A few years ago, we decided to give ALL students the opportunity to display and share "Accomplishments" or "Something They Are Proud Of" at the end of each trimester.

Students will display 1-2 things on Friday, November 12th for all school mates and for families to see at our Trimester 1 GALLERY WALK.

I ask that you start talking with your child about things they are proud of or have accomplished and want to share with everyone - these may include awards, medals, art work, instruments they play, story they have written, model car or something they have put together, test they got a good grade on that they worked hard for, project they created, craft project they created, and so on...... We would like them to write a sentence telling why they are proud of it and please make sure their name is some how attached to the item.

I want to personally invite you into North Side on Friday, November 12th between 3-4 p.m. to walk through the Gallery Walk in our gym to see all of the wonderful accomplishments of our North Side students. Please enter through door 3 and exit out the gym door.

We look forward to sharing with you!

Student Drop Off/Pick Up: IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ!!!!

Car Drop Off:

PLEASE DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILD OFF IN THE MORNING BEFORE 7:30 A.M. OUR DOORS DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 7:30 A.M. THIS LEAVES CHILDREN UNSUPERVISED, WHICH IS UNSAFE.

Car Pick Up:

We ask that you CALL BY 1:30 if you are making changes to your child's end of day dismissal. We are receiving too many calls close to 2:30 p.m. At this time, I have advised my office staff to let families know that we cannot honor changes past 2:00 p.m. This is for the safety of your child!

Also, if you are picking your child up in a vehicle, you MUST pick them up in the car line at the back of the building. You MAY NOT pick them up at door 1. We have had too many close calls where students are running across the front lot to a car and almost getting hit by a vehicle passing through. THIS IS NOT OKAY! We put procedures into place for all families to keep our students safe! We need all families to respect these procedures and help us keep all of the children safe. Waiting a few extra minutes in line is worth a safe child!!!! We appreciate you working with us!!!

Information From Our North Side Office Staff:

As a courtesy to our office staff, please try to avoid making phone calls to the office from 7:50-8:10 a.m. and from 2:30-2:50 p.m. During these timeframes we are working to get students into classes or ready to head home on busses or by car. We don't want to miss anything or make mistakes. We appreciate your help with this!

Office Reminders:

1. Book rental rates are located online at the East Noble website. You may pay it all at once or make payments each month, due on the 15th. Final payment is due on February 15th. Please know that if you are inquiring about free or reduced textbook fees, you MUST complete the free/reduced lunch application form. Call the school if you have any questions.

2. If your child is ill, please call our office and let us know by 9 a.m. if at all possible. Our office number is (260) 347-1354. If you believe the illness is Covid related, please ask to speak with Nurse Whitney. Other ways to contact us, e-mail Nurse Whitney at waumsbaugh@eastnoble.net or Stephanie Leasure, Principal at sleasure@eastnoble.net

3. Please contact the office by 1:30 p.m. if you need to make changes to your child's transportation home for the day. We cannot guarantee the changes when you call after 1:30 p.m. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THIS! Please note that the office phone may be on night ring during dismissal, please leave a message and we will call you right back as soon as dismissal is complete.

4. If your child is a car rider, please make sure to use your car tags each day. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CAR TAGS, PLEASE STOP AT THE OFFICE TO GET SOME RIGHT AWAY!

5. If you need to change your child's bus or start bus transportation, please follow these steps:

Bus Change or Start Up Requests

If you need to change your bus location, please go to the North Side website, https://www.eastnoble.net/o/north-side-elementary, and follow these directions:

Click on the "Menu" at the top of the home page. Click the “For Families” tab and then the "Transportation" tab. When the drop down menu appears, you will see a link called “Transportation Change Request.” When you click that link, you will be taken to a form that you can fill out and submit electronically. It will notify transportation via email that a request has been submitted and they will begin working on fulfilling the request. Once arrangements have been made and confirmed with drivers, transportation will communicate the arrangements to parents.

Our October "Wildcat Way Winners" will be pulled next week! They will be posted on our social media sights. Look for their picture next week!!!!

Cafeteria NEWS!!!

Are you taking advantage of our FREE school breakfast and lunch?

Please understand that our food shortage simply means that we can't always get some of the student favorites. We promise that students are still receiving a variety of lunches each week and we are offering peanut butter/jelly as a second option each day to students. Please call if you have any questions.

Students are still receiving a well-balanced meal with fresh fruit and vegetables. Breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. (8:15 on Mondays). Please contact food services if you have any questions.

For our lunch menu, download the East Noble app below. Click on the school in the top right corner and tap on North Side. Once on North Side's page, tap the 3 lines at the top left corner and touch "dining" and you will find our lunch menu for each day of that week.

Attendance

We are 1/3 of the way through the school year. How is your child's attendance? Are they missing school for illness only? How can you model to your child that school is important?

According to the state of Indiana, students shouldn't miss more than 6 days of school in a school year, Non-Covid related. Ask yourself, of the days my child has missed school, how many were Covid related and how many were not Covid related? Those related to Covid, were you directed by the school or your doctor to stay home?

How will you work on improving or keeping your child's attendance to a minimum the remainder of the school year?

Safety

We will continue to practice our required safety drills. If you ever have any questions, please reach out to me.

Bus

To North Side Elementary bus riders:

Per the East Noble School Corporation and Federal Mandates, students are required to have a mask on while riding the bus. The school has been handing out masks to students who continue to not have a mask. Our supply of masks that were donated to the school has run out and we are no longer able to provide masks to students who continue to forget a mask.

The following policy will be put into place starting on November 1, 2021. We have tried to hold off on writing referrals for as long as we could, but the lack of masks has gotten to the point that we need your help. Riding a bus is a privilege and not a right. This service can be taken away at any time.

If a student does not have a mask in the morning for pick up or in the afternoon for dismissal, it will be written up as a bus referral. The referral process is as follows:

1. 1st offense – verbal warning and call to parent.

2. 2nd offense – verbal warning and call to parent.

3. 3rd offense – loss of bus privilege for 1 day.

4. 4th offense – loss of bus privilege for 3 days.

5. 5th offense – loss of bus privilege for 5 days.

6. 6th offense – loss of bus privilege for 10 days.

7. 7th offense – loss of bus privilege for rest of school year.

Please help us by following the rule of your child having a mask while being transported on the school bus. Our goal is to not take away bus privileges, but we have to follow the guidelines given to us.
