September 28, 2020
I hope you are enjoying the pleasantly cooler weather! It makes me feel more energetic and I think the kids are energized too. I am thrilled with the instruction, brainstorming and independent work that I am observing in the Face-to-Face classrooms and our Virtual classrooms. Keep up the good work, Jaguars!
Parents now have the opportunity to make a change to their child’s learning environment for the 2nd Nine Weeks grading period. The window to make a change opens today, Monday, September 28, through Friday, October 2. The deadline for completing this learning environment selection is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020. All changes will be effective on the first day of the 2nd Nine Weeks grading period which is Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Please read the section below for more information on changing your student's learning environment for the next Nine Weeks.
Important Reminder: Effective September 24, 2020, free and reduced-price meal benefits that carried over from the 2019-2020 school year have expired. All households that did not fill out a federal meal application for the current school year have now been transferred to full-paid eligibility status. Although all Plano ISD students are currently receiving free breakfast and lunch due to a waiver from the USDA, please note that this waiver is in place until December 31, 2020, or when funds run out. If you depend on free or reduced-price meals for your child(ren), please be sure to complete the application process so that you have the needed support in place when the district returns to regular operations and free meals for all come to an end. Please see below for more application details.
Please be sure to to update your student's registration forms for the 2020-21 school year through Parent Portal.
Thanks,
Kamili Carthledge, Assistant Principal

Change of Environment for the 2nd Nine Weeks

Parents Who Do NOT Want to Make a Change of Environment
NO ACTION REQUIRED - If you are not requesting to change the current Learning Environment for your student during the 2nd Nine Weeks, then you do not need to log onto the Parent Portal to make this change. Your student(s) will be scheduled with the same learning option they had for the 1st Nine Weeks.
Parents Who WANT to Make a Change of Environment
ACTION REQUIRED - If you are requesting to change the current Learning Environment for your student during the 2nd Nine Weeks, you must log into Parent Portal to select this change for the Second Nine Weeks.
Instructions for Parent Portal
Primary guardians/parents will use their Plano ISD Parent Portal login to access the Change of Learning Environment selection. A primary guardian/parent must complete this form for each student that you are requesting to change the learning environment. Videos demonstrating the Change of Learning Environment process are available in English and Spanish.
Important Scheduling Information
Please note that changes in learning environment selections may result in the following implications for teacher assignments and student schedules:
- Some staff may need to shift to align with new learning environment choices. Therefore, even students who do not change learning environments could experience a change to their teacher(s), course availability or class schedule as teachers are assigned based on the numbers of students and course requests in each environment. Every effort will be made to minimize teacher changes for those who did not make a learning environment change, however, we cannot guarantee that in every case.
Elementary
Students changing their environment may be assigned to a new teacher or teachers.
- Change in Environment will almost always result in a teacher change
- The District will try to maintain social distancing in the Face2Face classrooms to the greatest degree possible, however, Face2Face classrooms may increase to 22:1 depending upon the number of PISD School@Home students who change to Face2Face learning environment

Counselor's Corner
We are excited to announce that we will begin our 2020-2021 Jaguar of the Month Program on October 1. For new families, Jaguar of the Month is a student reward program (students grades K-5 only) that incorporates character traits from the website/program Character First Education.
Each month a new trait will be announced on JagTube. Throughout the month, teachers will reinforce this character trait in their Face-to-Face and Virtual classrooms and look for students that demonstrate the trait consistently throughout the month. Each teacher will select a student from their class to be recognized for for their efforts. Below are a few of the ways that nominated students will be celebrated. More details about the program will be coming.
- Winners will be announced on JagTube
- Student will receive a certificate (digital for virtual)
- Names will be displayed on the bulletin board near the front office
The character trait for October is Flexibility. Parents will receive information on the trait so they can work with their students at home. We look forward to watching our students build on their character traits!
Thank you,
Andrea Hall, Counselor
