EVG's Weekly Update

Building a Better World, One Student at a Time

Week of October 25, 2021

Dear EVG Community,

It has been an exciting month of October. Our fall clubs started last week, and we finished our Start Strong Assessments. This week begins Red Ribbon Week, the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention awareness program. Please see below for a detailed flyer of this week's activities. In addition, our Sixth Grade Service Club kicks off a "Socktober" drive this week to collect new socks for people in need. They will also be collecting Halloween Candy to send to our troops next week.

In addition, we also look forward to celebrating Halloween with a parade on October 29, 2021, at 1:30 pm. Please see below for additional details.

Below are a few important reminders:

  • If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home until they are feeling better. If your child is going to be absent, please call the attendance line at 201-945-4106 x2217.

  • School begins each day at 8:00 am.

  • Each student should bring a water bottle to school each day. Please label the bottle with the child's name.

  • Lunch: Lunch remains free, but students can now purchase snacks. Breakfast is also available for free each morning at 7:40 am. Students can enter the building at the front entrance for breakfast.

Have a great week!

Michele Higgins, EVG Principal

Sixth Graders Win Grant

Last year our sixth graders worked on project ideas to help improve the environment at Eleanor Van Gelder School and the community. Through this project, several of our students won a grant to bring a water bottle filling station to EVG to cut down on plastic water bottles. The PTO also donated two additional water bottle filling stations to our school.
