Maverick Minutes
January 28-February-2
She said what?
After this last assembly, one student found his way to thank me, one came to assure me that although drugs are in his home, he will not bring them here and another sent me a private message of their experiences.
I will tell you that my heart is in my throat every time I speak. I am nervous, uncertain at the reaction of the message and paranoid that something will go awry. But it's all age appropriate...it's all real.
As you head into this next semester and continue to build relationships with your students, be bold...and be vulnerable. I know a lot of your stories and it has a direct impact on how I lead you, how I approach you and how I advocate for you. It's ok to let people into a part of your journey if it may change the trajectory of theirs. The easiest way I get through the insecurities of it is to put myself in their shoes. What would I have listen to at 12, who would I have listen to and knowing the timing of it all. At the time I went through some of my most challenging moments in life, I didn't understand the purpose...now I do. I know the gift of the platform that I have with 1200+ people watching and it is powerful. You too have a powerful arena to reach kids and really get to know them and their needs. Those moments may stop the next child from feeling alone, unwanted, outcasted and helpless. Your relationship with them might just be the first one they have...with anyone.
Prayers continued for those lost, wounded and impacted from the tragedy at Marshall County High School.
