From the Principal...

October 22, 2021

Dear Westbrook Families,

We are excited to announce our Walk for Westbrook winners this week! The class that raised the most money was Mrs. Domalick's first grade classroom. They have won a Read Under the Stars party with the principals. Students who raised over one hundred dollars won a painting with the principal's party. Invitations for painting with the principal will be sent home in your child’s backpack this week. The entire school won an assembly with the Jesse White Tumblers later this month. We are so proud of all of our students and we are looking forward to celebrating their accomplishment.

We had a busy week at Westbrook School. We had our weekly shield testing, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Starting next week we will try completing all of our shield testings in one day at Westbrook. Please see this updated shield schedule. Please note that students should not eat or drink one hour prior to testing.

In addition to shield testing, we had hearing and vision screenings for our kindergarten and first-grade students. I am thankful to our nurses for all of the hard work coordinating the screenings.

Please take a moment to review all of the information below regarding Halloween events, PTO events, and Parent/Teacher conferences.

Halloween Information

Halloween is quickly approaching. The Halloween party schedule and parade schedule are below. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade (weather permitting) on Friday, October 29th, at their child’s assigned time. We will walk out of door #1 and parade around the school. Please spread out so that all families can see their child walk by.

Students are invited to come to school in costume. It is important to ensure students are in comfortable costumes so they can sit in the classroom. Please help your child make safe and respectful decisions about their costumes. Students may wear an appropriate mask in the parade, but not during school. Make-up, weapons, fake blood, or inappropriate dress are not allowed. All costume accessories will be left in the classroom for recess and lunch. Students may not bring food or candy to share.

LRC Buzz

Don't forget - you can bring your decorated "book character pumpkin" to the LRC beginning October 18th!

To celebrate the season, families are invited to talk about some of their favorite book characters and create a "pumpkin" together to display on top of the LRC bookshelves along with a picture of the book in which they star. Some examples are posted below.

**Please do not use real pumpkins or food**

Join us in this celebration of books and the season!
