Mrs. Kelley's 1st Grade Class Newsletter
We had an amazing morning when the Carrollton Fire Department came to Homestead for a visit! We learned all about Fire Safety and how a firefighter does his job. Your kids asked great questions and listened intently. I was proud of all of them.
Please plan to attend the Homestead PTA meeting this Tuesday, October 20th at 6:00pm. All of our 1st graders will perform musical demonstrations. Ms. Pipitone asked that all kids report to the cafeteria and sit with their parents until called to perform. Kids should just wear regular school clothes; no dresses or skirts for girls please. I can't wait to see them! If you are unable to attend, please contact Ms. Pipitone. email@example.com
Please make a note that we have early dismissal at 12:30 this Friday, October 23rd. In the past, the cafeteria has only offered a sandwich sack lunch on these days, no hot selections.
This is our last week of the first quarter of 1st grade! Your kids have been wonderful and learned so much!

The Carrollton firemen had a great time teaching the kids.
Having fun exploring the inside of the firetruck.
Hands On SCIENCE
Kids practice sorting objects by properties.
Working together. Observation and discussion.
Properties of Matter
Color, shape, size, texture!
Kids are slowly but surely beginning to put a few sentences together to make a story.
This week kids wrote about the day the Fire Truck came to Homestead.
Draft, edit, and publish. Each piece of writing gets a little bit better. At this point we concentrate on capitalization and punctuation. Correct spelling and grammar will come with time and practice.
Kids learn about different kinds of maps, map symbols, keys, and a compass rose.
Kids put all of their learning together to create maps of the Homestead playground.
Organize and create!
Kids bring objects to school to classify.
There are many times during the day that our kids work in groups. They are learning to cooperate, delegate, and problem solve.
Thanks for helping kids choose objects for science. What a great looking batch of 1st graders!
