Getting More Out of Your Device
General BYOD
Step 1: Connect to Wifi
WIFI is usually accessible via SETUP
Connect to PDSBFaculty and use your 'P' number and password to login
Step 2: Participate in an online poll
Online Poll Software like www.socrative.com or www.polleverywhere.com turns your personal device into a clicker.
Goto m.socrative.com and sign into the room number displayed on the board to take a sample quiz.
You can setup a free account at www.socrative.com which allows for 50 simultaneous users and automatically generates a spreadsheet report. www.polleverywhere.com is another great choice if displaying the results live in a more attractive way is more important (it can export live quizes as embeddable PowerPoint slides). Polleverywhere requires a paid subscription to generate reports however.

Step 3: Take notes with the built in Note app
Apple IOS (Iphone, Ipad, Ipod touch)
The built in note app can record text and share it via email, text messages or can be copy/pasted. Once you familiarize yourself with Note a separate app like EverNote (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/evernote/id281796108?mt=8) has significantly more functionality.
Android Device (phone or tablet)
Depending on the device you have, you may or may not have an pre-loaded note app. One of the best note apps is EverNote (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote&hl=en) it allows you to create media rich notes with handwriting, drawings, text, web content and share it on multiple devices. It is strongly recommended.
Step 4: Download some apps
Apple IOS (Iphone, Ipad, Ipod touch)
Open up the app store. A wealth of high quality free apps are available for creating content like movies, slide shows, audio recordings (podcasts), graphic organisers and more. See: http://intranet.peelschools.org/21stCentury/Teaching/MobileTechnologies/Pages/CREATE.aspx

Step 5: Don't just consume content, Create it!
A paperslide video project is a great way for students to create a device-neutral product that explains their understanding.
Have them create a youtube channel first: (paperslide explanation on bottom of page)
