OPHS I.C.A.R.E. Volunteer

Dear Oak Park High School community,

Our commitment to creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students, staff and families at Oak Park High School (OPHS) is unwavering. I want to assure you that safety and security are our priority. In light of the incident that took place last week, our resolve for this work has been strengthened.

In tough times, this community is known for supporting each other. With this in mind, this is not work we can do alone. As a principal in Oak Park Schools for 12 years, I have repeatedly been amazed and encouraged by collaborative partnerships with the entire Oak Park community.

We have a shared responsibility to keeping our students, staff, and families safe. My ask is for parents/guardians, alumni, and community members to support our OPHS students by volunteering your time as an I.C.A.R.E. (Integrity, Community, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) Volunteer. Because we know you are dedicated to the success of OPHS, we want you to be part of ensuring our students and staff have a peaceful and productive end of the school year.

Interested in joining the I CARE Team?

STEP ONE - Complete the interest form

Complete the I CARE Team interest form by clicking HERE.

STEP TWO - Submit Mandatory Background Check

To ensure the protection of students of Oak Park School District (OPSD), school policy requires all potential volunteers complete an iCHAT background check, prior to providing a volunteer service at a school or for any function conducted by OPSD. Any applicant declining to complete a “Volunteer Background Check” Acknowledgment Form will not be considered.

No individual will be permitted to volunteer if s/he has been convicted of a misdemeanor described in, or a felony that is a "listed offense" as defined in, MCL 380.1535a or MCL 380.1539b. If an individual has been convicted of a felony that is not a listed offense, as defined in MCL 380.1535a or MCL 380.1539b, the individual may only be permitted to volunteer if the Board and the Superintendent both approve the volunteer assignment in writing. This policy does not grant any individual who passes an ICHAT background check with the right to be approved as a volunteer.

To be considered as a volunteer, submit the completed Volunteer Background Check Acknowledgement Form (below), accompanied by a copy of the volunteer's valid driver's license or state identification card to Ms. Lashun Harris at lashun.harris-mitchell@opsk12.org for processing.
