Spark of World War 1

The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, Sofia, by a Serbian nationalist, provides the spark that touches off World War I.

U.S. Joins the War

President Woodrow Wilson never wanted to join the, but in 1915, the British passenger liner the Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine, killing 128 Americans and further heightening tensions.

President Woodrow Wilson Declared that "the world must be safe for democracy" to a joint session of Congress, while asking them to declare war against Germany in 1917.

The United States formally declares war against Germany and enters the conflict in Europe, in 1917.

War Time Period

World War 1 starts on June 28, 1914 and last till November 11, 1918.

The goal of WWI

Germany wanted some of Frances land and for them to annex to Germany.
