Academic Update
Literacy - We have been doing cross curricular activities with reading and social studies. Students are being exposed to different texts/stories on the topic of modern and ancient China. Afterwards we have discussions and/or complete comprehension activities! A couple of my favorite activities have been 25 word summaries and narrative pyramids. It was a challenge to keep the summaries to only 25 words!
Intercambios - We still have four days left to study Antigua China! On the schedule this week: barriers (i.e. the Great Wall), entertainment, communication, and food/clothing. We'll be attempting to use chopsticks!
Spelling - Spanish words this week are rhyming words. English words have the prefixes re- and un-.

Enroll in 4th grade orchestra!
Dear Parents of Current Third Graders,
This week I will meet with 3rd grade classes during their music time to tell them about the instruments of the string orchestra (violin, viola, cello, and bass) and the opportunity they have to be in 4th grade orchestra next year. Your child will be bringing home a handout about orchestra. Participating in Orchestra is a family decision. Please look over the handout and talk with your child about the possibility of joining orchestra.
Elementary Orchestra is a FREE curricular class offered during the school day. The only cost is the instrument. Students must secure their own instrument. If you need financial assistance in acquiring an instrument for your child, please let me know. The district owns a limited number of violas, cellos, and basses.
To learn a little bit more about our orchestra program, the handout and enrollment form is online at Mrs. Buccola's Elementary Orchestra Google Site.
You can register for orchestra by filling out the online registration form at http://goo.gl/forms/AKDSfcyzB0
Online registration is the preferred method to register for orchestra. If you are unable to fill out the registration form online, a paper registration form is included in the handout your child will bring home this week. If you need another copy of the handout, please ask your child’s homeroom teacher or music teacher. Please enroll in orchestra ASAP or no later than Friday, May 8th.
After I receive your student’s enrollment form, I will meet with your child during school to briefly discuss what instrument they would like to play and measured them for the appropriate instrument size.
Also after you enroll, look for more emails about the Orchestra Instrument Display Night on Thursday May 21st at Lake Middle School from 4:00-7:00pm.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at kbuccola@sowashco.k12.mn.us
I look forward to your potential participation in the District 833 Orchestra Program!
