Car Rider Reminder
Effective Tuesday, March 15, parents must have their car rider number displayed during afternoon dismissal. If you do not have a car rider tag, you will be directed around to the front of the school to check out your child from the front office. We will no longer be checking identification in the car rider lane. If you need a new car rider tag, please contact the front office and they will gladly make a new one for you. Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and efficient car rider process. We appreciate your support!
The practice site below lets students see what testing online is like. Parents and educators are welcome to try it too. The items on the demonstration tests are general and are organized into three grade bands: Grades 3 – 5, Grades 6 – 8, and High School in the content areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The items do not necessarily represent the specific grade-level content that students learn daily in their classrooms. The primary purpose is to let students experience, firsthand, the functionality of the online testing platform. The sample tests are not graded, so have fun!

Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month
Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of March is Cooperation. Cooperation means working together nicely to get a job done. This is such an important skill for students, both in and out of the classroom. As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited cooperation the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month.

Spotlight on SEL Picture Books
The Power of One by Trudy Ludwig
When one child reaches out in friendship to a classmate who seems lonely, she begins a chain reaction of kindness that ripples throughout her school and her community. This book focuses on the character traits of kindness, sharing and caring. This story delivers the straightforward message that even small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
Reading Rewards
I hope you are reading and logging your March minutes! All March reading logs will be due on or before April 1.
Monthly logs should reflect 20 different dates in the month, with at least 20 total minutes of reading for each date. Incomplete logs will not be accepted. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.
If you lose your log or find you need a replacement, monthly logs can be downloaded and printed from the media center link of the school website. Look for the Reading Rewards link on the left side of the media center website.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, refer to the reading rewards link on the media center page of the school website or contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
