June 2019
A Note From Principal Miller
Dear CE Families,
As the final month to the 18-19 school year draws upon us, there is still much to be done. Among them, teachers are preparing summer materials to help families during those “down days.” A different kind of learning takes place during the summer when the weather breaks and students are more outside than in. Put away the devices and explore your community. Take bike rides, hike or walk and encourage your child to ask questions. Then, visit your local library to answer those questions. The gains from these experiences include an increased vocabulary, listening and speaking skills, and reading fluency from finding ‘just right’ books to support your child’s curiosity. Just Right Books are books where students can independently read the words and understand what they are reading. Your teacher and/or local librarian can help you assist your child in finding books that are ‘just right.’
Other things going on this summer:
- Summer School (by invite only)
- Coxsackie Summer Rec. Program
- Camp Invention: July 8th-12th
- Sports Camp: July 1-5th
- Computer/Coding: July 22-25th (Grade 4+)
- Book Swap: (Wednesdays Coxsackie Farmers Market)
- Daily FREE Breakfast and Lunch
In mid-August, letters will be mailed with information on how to access the portal and find out who your child’s teacher is for next year. Other information can be found on our website.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer and stay connected to us.
~Principal Miller
