Kia ora Clarkville Te Kura ki Waimātao whānau
A special welcome to our new tamariki:
Angus in Wairaki learning space
Kawiti in Kaikanui learning space
Swimming Sports
Congratulations to all of the tamariki who participated in our school Swimming Sports on Monday. It was a really great morning of participation and competition. The event was a lot of fun with the tamariki all encouraging one another really well! A massive thank you to those staff members who worked to put the event together and also to the parents/caregivers who were able to attend and support. Special thanks to parents Jon, Mia, Zoe and Paula for doing a great job with the timing! The official results will follow in our next newsletter.
Early Pick Up - Friday 3 March
Teaching staff who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa have a critical paid union meeting in Rangiora on Friday 3 March from 2-3pm. NZEI Te Riu Roa members have an entitlement to attend as these are official paid union meetings.
As such, we will now unable to sufficiently and safely staff our school during this time. Parents / caregivers, we ask that you collect your children (Year 1 - 6) from school at 1pm. If this is impossible, can you please let Kathryn in our Office know by emailing her at admin@clarkville.school.nz . We will arrange alternative supervision at school for the afternoon.
Year 7 / 8 students will attend Specialist Subjects/Technology (these teachers belong to a different union) as usual and will catch the bus back to Clarkville at approximately 2.40pm.
The school bus (to take Year 7/8 students) will continue to operate at its usual 2.55pm time. There will be no earlier bus at 1pm for Year 1 - 8 children on this day.
Year 5/6 Camp
Is this week at Hanmer Springs Forest Camp. Hopefully the weather is kind and the tamariki have a super end to their week. The group will participate in several adventure activities, camp associated learning, a walk up Conical Hill and to cap it off, a visit to the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools!
Parking and Road Safety
We are insisting that children use the designated crossing area when crossing Heywards Road. It is important to use this area, as motor vehicles will be expecting pedestrians to cross at this point. Please also set a good example for children by using this area also. As a community, we all want our children to remain safe!

From our PTA
Clarkville School Gala - Sat 25 March
As the Gala nears we are looking for people to volunteer to help out with various things; such as manning the sausage sizzle, helping at the bake sale etc. Please email the PTA (clarkvillePTA@gmail.com) if you can help in any way. Many hands make light work and this is a community Gala with us needing everyone to play a part. Closer to the time we will have other ways you can help such as a financial donation if you prefer or food/drink donation for the sausage sizzle. We are lucky enough this year to have the sausages donated by Hellers but we’ll still need sauce, onions etc! The car boot sale will be open to the public to bring in their vehicles, and the advertising for this will start next week.
Any questions re the Gala or car boot sale please direct to Kristy, or email the PTA email address and we’ll get back to you.
PTA Meeting
Our first PTA meeting was held on Tuesday 21 February at 6.45pm in the Staffroom. We always welcome you to join us, you don’t need to be a member of the PTA to attend and you don't have to come to all our meetings. It’s up to you! The main topic of discussion for this particular meeting was fundraising for our school. We welcome all ideas and volunteers to get these fundraisers off the ground!
Friends of the PTA
In a similar vein, if you like to help the PTA but don’t actually want to officially join, then we can work with that! We have an email group called Friends of the PTA. How this works is that we email the group whenever we need help with something. If you are free and willing to help then great, and if not then maybe the next time. There’s no pressure whatsoever! If you are interested in joining the Friends of the PTA then please drop the PTA an email at clarkvillePTA@gmail.com and we’ll add you to our list!
PTA Facebook Page
If you haven’t already done so, please make sure you follow our PTA facebook page (Clarkville School PTA). This is where you will get reminders for school lunches, notices for upcoming events, etc.
There are also three class FB pages that are not run by the school, but instead run by the parents. A good place to ask any questions.
Uniforms
Just a reminder that the PTA sells second-hand uniforms. All items are $2 each. Please contact Jenna Martin on 021 104 2819. We also gratefully accept donations of excess uniforms so please contact Jenna to arrange for drop off.
