Nixon Elementary School
Notables From Nixon!
Grateful For Our Nixon School
I hope each of you are well and looking forward to some well deserved time off. Each of us have pioneered through the 11 weeks of school bravely. Our children benefit from the dedication of our home and school learning environments and all of their teachers.
This work, as we well know, is not always the easiest. We try to make our work, home, and school lives a graceful compliment and at times all we can ask for is the effort of forward progress.
Nixon School is grateful for you and your family. The smiling faces of children each day, the welcoming connections at car pick up and positive emails/phone calls from families make this time doable for all staff. Nixon is known for its strength of community and care for one another. We have a strong, dedicated staff who work dynamically each day for each and every one of our children. Our families find genius ways to make us feel valued and cared for throughout the year. For all of these things, and many more, Nixon is grateful.
Enjoy this weekend and thank you for always supporting us!
Please find some words from our children below of their moments of gratitude. The writing is beautiful and even more lovely are the words shared from our most precious community members. Grateful for the words of our children.
With much care and admiration,
Susan Woods
Principal

A Note From Nurse Chabot
Important Reminder about the Flu Vaccine Requirement
The Department of Public Health has added a new influenza vaccine requirement for grade K-12. This requirement was put in place to reduce influenza-related morbidity and to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illness in a population still facing the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will be expected to have received an influenza vaccine by December 31, 2020 unless they have a medical or religious exemption. This is a requirement for all students regardless of whether the district is providing instruction in-person or using a hybrid or remote learning model.
If you have not yet done so, please provide the documentation of immunization, either email or paper copy, to Anne Chabot in the Nixon Health Office at anne_chabot@sudbury.k12.ma.us

Helpful Guidance for COVID Testing
COVID-19 Travel Advisory
Please carefully consider your travel plans over the Thanksgiving break as it could potentially impact our school community and our ability to have students remain with in-person learning.
Massachusetts residents are urged against traveling out-of-State
Please be aware that the CDC has urged all Americans not to travel and to keep celebrations within single households. This warning was issued 11/19/2020 as positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations reached a record high across the U.S.
The MA Travel Order requires a 14 day quarantine period upon your return unless you have a negative PCR Covid-19 test result. We recommend quarantining and testing on day 3-5 of your return in order to detect possible exposure that may have occurred during the travel period.
If you travel to a higher-risk state, a molecular diagnostic COVID-19 PCR test result is required upon your return to MA. A rapid test or a serology test will not be accepted. Documentation of results must be submitted to your school nurse before your child can return to school.
The MA Travel Order is for anyone entering Massachusetts from out-of-State and includes Massachusetts residents returning from second homes or weekend trips to any state not considered to be lower-risk.
As of November 20, 2020 the current list of Lower-Risk States Includes:
Vermont
Hawaii
*Maine & New Hampshire will be high-risk effective November 21, 2020
Rhode Island and Connecticut are currently listed as Higher-Risk States
Please refer to this link as you make travel plans as it is continues to be updated by the State of Massachusetts: Link to List of Lower Risk States
